Art, design and technology technician

Archer Academy is looking for an art, design and technology technician to join its team in London.
Post: secondary school art, design and technology technician
Grade: Scale Point 4 – 6
Actual salary: £20,878 – £21,566 per annum
Working Arrangements: 36 hours per week, term time only (39 weeks per year)
You will be jointly responsible for the safe and effective running of technology and art resources, under the guidance of the head of art, design and technology.
There will be wider opportunities for you to run workshops and clubs, utilising your own creative specialism. We invite all staff to capitalise on their own practice, to share acquired skills that will enhance and enrich our artistic offer.
Key duties and responsibilities
- to work as part of the technology and art team
- to prepare equipment for lessons
- to manage the stock control of materials and equipment
- to source/research new equipment and materials
- to maintain an inventory of equipment found within the department
- to prepare materials in a safe and accurate manner
- to work safely at all times (guidance from Croners/COSH)
- to maintain/make basic equipment as required
- to monitor/maintain safe working conditions in workshops/studios, including safe storage of materials
- to prepare photocopies as required
- to prepare examples for lessons as required
- to make display boards for the department to create work displays
- to assist with end of year exhibition including making display boards and hanging/mounting work
- to assist with workshops and The Big Draw
- to work with individual students and groups to support them when designing and making products for a mini enterprise
- to file resources as directed
- to order equipment as required
- to order books as required
- to possibly help prepare ‘flats’ and staging for school plays
- to be prepared to receive training as part of ongoing professional development
- to alert the head of department to any observed health and safety issues
- to report observed poor pupil behaviour
- to prepare/service equipment for other departments, as instructed by the head of department
- to maintain/develop AV resources as directed by the head of department
- to work with the head of department on budget development and control
- to demonstrate techniques and methods for lessons
- to support the work of teachers in classes and workshop sessions
- to work with individual students and supporting them on projects, under overall supervision of teaching staff
- to undertake general administration duties
- to undertake any other reasonable tasks as requested
Education and Qualifications:
A good standard of education including English, maths and art, design and technology experience (preferably obtained in a school setting).
Skills and Abilities – some in-house training will be offered:
- good organisational skills
- organisational insight and initiative
- good interpersonal skills
- the ability to use ICT and learn new ICT processes
- the ability to use CAD/CAM
- the ability to use and maintain tools and machine tools (Band saw/circular saw etc)
- an ability to relate well with both children and adults
- possession of a full clean driving licence would be an advantage
