Welcome to TopHat

We design and manufacture timber-framed houses within a large manufacturing facility in Foston, near Derby. We are recruiting for a project design lead.

When we asked our current leads about what would make this role attractive in the market and what needed to go into this advert – this is what they told us to share with you:

  • you will be managing everything within the project – beginning right to the end (all the project life cycle) so you will gain experiences across all stages of the design/build
  • it is a multi-disciplinary process so you will gain huge experience across the value stream (design, building regs, client management, internal working with factory/manufacturing processes, engineers, construction, deployment, costing, etc.)
  • this is modular housing – is it new, niche, innovative and would be interesting to architects
  • it is progressive – you get to see what is designed quickly and see it built in the factory – you are not waiting ages to see what you are creating in practice – you see it within our Factory quickly and know what will work and what needs to change
  • it is right at the top of the UK housing agenda both in terms of housing crisis, levelling up and energy management
  • oh… – and our chief design officer said it would be good working directly with the founder of the company too!

Now a little more detail:

  • you will be responsible for the project management of the end to end design from pre-planning stage, through technical design manufacture, site deployment to handover. You will build a strong working relationship with the client, whilst coordinating with the concept, DfMa, technical and
deployment teams (and the company as a whole) to ensure a high level of coordination, and quick and appropriate resolution of issues
  • you will support in the modelling and production of DfMa drawings where required, whilst working with the client for approval of technical design and specification.
