Architect/senior furniture designer
at Uncommon Projects

Uncommon Projects is hiring an architect/senior furniture designer to join its team in London.

Uncommon Projects is an award-winning design studio and manufacturer of high-end bespoke plywood cabinetry. The role is based at our flagship showroom at Design District in North Greenwich. We are looking for an architect or senior furniture designer to work alongside our creative director to meet new clients, show them what we do, and create architecturally responsive designs, in our house style, suitable for manufacture. While the majority of our projects are kitchens, we also make bedroom storage, office furniture and many other architectural elements.

Experience and qualifications:

  • a professional degree in architecture, furniture design or a related design field
  • have at least three years’ experience in domestic architecture or high-end furniture design
  • highly proficient using 2D CAD, SketchUp and Photoshop
  • the ability to produce clear and accurate technical design drawings
  • strong organisational skills, resourceful and with a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • while experience in the field of furniture sales would be a bonus, it is not strictly necessary.
  • the candidate should be actively interested in and well-informed about architecture and general furniture design
  • enjoy meeting new clients, telling them about our product and forming great working relationships with them
  • have a sharp eye for architectural detail and be capable of working methodically and accurately
  • have an understanding of building regulations and construction standards
  • be ambitious and self-motivated, we seek an individual who works well in a collaborative and supportive team environment

Responsibility and duties:

  • filter and respond to new project enquiries
  • create full design proposals in collaboration with the client
  • meet potential clients to show them around the showroom, explain our work and listen to their requirements
  • prepare preliminary sketch plans to create estimates
  • create and issue contract documentation
  • site visits to discuss design and undertake preliminary surveys
  • create technical services drawing
