The V&A has an opportunity for a director to join its V&A East site in London.
As the V&A continues to expand beyond its historic home at South Kensington we are looking for a new director of V&A East, to lead the creative strategy and programme for our two new sites at East Bank in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford.
The first is a new O’Donnell + Tuomey designed museum located on the Waterfront site, alongside UAL’s London College of Fashion, and new venues for Sadler’s Wells and BBC Studios. The centrepiece of the new V&A galleries will be a pioneering partnership with the Smithsonian Institution.
The second site is our pioneering Collection and Research Centre, located at Here East the former Olympics broadcasting centre turned tech and innovation campus. This will see the creation of a new type of museum experience, inventing the idea of a museum store as a visitor experience, with visitors invited on a 360 degree museological journey, revealing stories, process and purpose behind the collecting of 250k objects, 350k books and 1,000 archives, which are not currently on display.
This exceptional and exciting new role will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of a new strategy and creative programme for V&A East, ensuring the future success of this major new global cultural attraction in East London.
Overseeing the development of the public programme up to opening in 2023, and then leading the new V&A sites once open, the director will develop and deliver an outstanding programme of major exhibitions, new commissions, collaborations and projects, working very closely with local audiences and communities, to provide a unique and revolutionary approach to accessing the museum collection and the provision of a wide range of learning and visitor opportunities.
We are seeking a visionary creative leader with the passion and ability to establish V&A East as a major new cultural attraction in East London. You will have extensive experience within the arts and culture sector or related creative industries, in the UK or overseas, and a track record of innovative audience engagement and creative public programming.
The V&A is the world’s leading museum of art, design and performance, with a founding mission to provide public access to the best examples of artistic and design practice from across the world, with extensive collections from 5,000 years ago to contemporary practice.
