London, UK
Senior architect
at XUL Architecture
XUL Architecture is hiring a senior architect to join its team in London.
About us
At XUL Architecture, we are passionate about the relationship between design, psychology, mental and physical health.
We’re a London-based practice rooted in the science of neuroarchitecture – an emerging field exploring how spaces shape how we think, feel, and behave. We combine bold, creative design with evidence-based thinking to design homes that aren’t just beautiful, but foster a sense of wellbeing.
We’re growing – and we’re looking for a senior architect who shares our passion for human-centred design and wants to shape the next generation of residential architecture through innovation, intuition and insight.
About the role
This is a rare opportunity to take a leading creative role in a studio that places neuroscience and wellbeing at the heart of design.
You’ll guide residential projects, mostly high-end single-family homes, from the first sketch through to completion – translating a client’s vision into spaces that feel as good as they look. You’ll thrive in the early RIBA stages, where ideas take shape, and bring the steadiness and experience to carry those ideas all the way through delivery.
Key responsibilities:
- lead design in RIBA Stages 0–3 with flair, empathy and strategic thinking
- drive detailed design development (Stages 4–5) and manage delivery on site (Stages 6–7)
- translate client briefs into bold, intuitive architectural concepts
- champion the principles of neuroarchitecture throughout the process
- collaborate clearly and confidently with clients, consultants and colleagues
- mentor junior team members and foster a creative, collaborative studio culture
- take ownership of programme, quality, and budget across multiple projects
What we’re looking for:
- five to ten years’ post-Part 3 experience, with a focus on private high-end residential work in the UK
- strong portfolio showing early-stage design talent and conceptual thinking
- excellent communication skills – confident with clients, consultants and your team
- curiosity about research – especially in neuroscience, psychology or human behaviour
- experience managing projects through all RIBA stages, from concept to completion
- leadership qualities – able to inspire, coordinate and deliver with confidence
- a positive, sociable outlook and an eagerness to contribute to studio life
Why join XUL Architecture?
- neuroarchitecture at the core – join one of the UK’s only practices actively applying neuroscience to residential design. You don’t need prior experience – we’ll train you
- creative autonomy – shape projects from first ideas to final handover
- supportive leadership – work in a close-knit, emotionally intelligent team
- room to grow – as we expand, so can your role and influence
- a studio that walks the talk – we design for well-being, and we prioritise it in how we work, collaborate and grow together
