Visiting lecturer in architectural design

The University of Westminster is seeking visiting lecturers in architectural design to work part-time at its Marylebone Campus in London.

Context

The School of Architecture + Cities is one of the leading schools of architecture in the UK.

We are looking for three inspirational tutors to educate and act as professional role-models for our super-diverse student body.

Situated in the centre of London, the school enjoys large purpose-built studios, a newly commissioned Digital Fabrication Laboratory and extensive workshops, the P3 Ambika Exhibition Space, as well as the benefits of being part of a wider, collaborative College of Design, Creative and Digital Industries. The school’s programmes are characterised by strong links to practice and teaching-led research.

Role and dimensions

Our design studio tutors work in pairs, each pair consisting of a design studio leader (two days per teaching week) who leads in preparation, teaching & assessment of design studio modules to the student group, and an assistant tutor (one day per teaching week) who supports all aspects of studio delivery.

We are expanding the number of Design Studios in our 2nd Year, and are interviewing for new design studio team members working 2-days (lead tutor) and one day a week respectively, as well as an assistant tutor for our 1st year working one day a week.

Salary

£58.61 per hour (comprehensive rate including teaching, preparation and marking).

2-day a week role -220 hours contact time over academic year (24 weeks not including preparation and marking), the 1-day a week likewise is 110 hours.

Applications

Applicants will have at least a postgraduate degree in Architecture, RIBA Part 2 or equivalent. We welcome applicants in practice or undertaking research.

Applicants will need to demonstrate an ability to teach at undergraduate level and to be able to explain how recent practice/research experience would inform their teaching.

You should submit a covering letter, a CV including samples of you own work and examples of student work from previous teaching experience (if applicable), and specify whether you are interested in the role of studio leader or assistant tutor. We welcome applications from teams, but each tutor should apply separately.

If you are interested in running a studio, you should prepare a one-page outline studio brief, with an overview of how you would organise your teaching. The brief should demonstrate how your recent teaching, research, or practice would inform your proposal.
