Salary: £50,162 to £57,361 per annum (Incl. LWA)
Department: School of Architecture and Cities
Location: central London
This post is full time and permanent, working 35 hours per week
The School of Architecture and Cities is one of the leading schools of architecture in the UK. Based at the University’s Marylebone Campus, the School enjoys brilliant purpose-built studios and a world-class Fabrication Laboratory featuring extensive digital and analogue workshops. It also benefits from being part of a wider, collaborative College of Design, Creative and Digital Industries. The school offers a range of professionally accredited undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in architecture and cognate disciplines, characterised by a triangulation of teaching, practice and research.
Building on its existing success, the School is seeking to appointment a full-time course leader for BA architecture (BArch, RIBA Part 1). Leading the course team, this appointment is an opportunity to contribute to the evolution of architectural education at Westminster. The BArch can be characterised as super-diverse and inter-cultural; a mix that reflects its place at the heart of architectural education in London. The postholder will capitalise on these dimensions, and will also lead innovations in digital capabilities, professional engagement, as well as in addressing the climate emergency. The virtual exhibition, catalogue and film of recent BArch coursework can be seen here.
The postholder will work with the wider cross-disciplinary and international contexts of the course and play a key role in curriculum development, planning and delivery, beginning with the re-validation of the course in 2021. They will also possess sufficient specialist knowledge to work with the professional, regulatory and statutory bodies (PSRBs) in the development of the BArch.
The school has a strong research and knowledge exchange base in planning, transport and architectural design, theory, history, environment, technology and practice. The postholder will be an active researcher and contribute to the school’s research and knowledge exchange, joining one of the school’s five research themes/groups. This may include the supervision of PhDs, the instigation of new research projects and applications for external funding, as well as publishing scholarly outputs, and contributing to the broader research culture within the school. The postholder should have a PhD or equivalent level of knowledge or practice-based experience, teaching experience and a research or knowledge exchange background or well-established professional expertise.
