Professorship – industrial building and design
at University of Stuttgart

The University of Stuttgart is offering a professorship in industrial building and design in Stuttgart, Germany.

Role: W3 professorship – industrial building and design

Institute for Design and Construction | 01/10/2022

In teaching and research, the professorship is dedicated to the subject of buildings in the industrial and commercial sector – such as buildings for production, logistics, research, engineering and administration. Complex social, economic, ecological and developmental issues are the focus of attention as well as strategic-programmatic aspects of design and construction projects in these domains. Furthermore, a broader focus is placed on industrial site development and the identification of requirements, as well as on an interdisciplinary analysis of modifications of architectural impact derived from future perceptions of the concept of work in the production and service sectors. This theoretical and practical context is to be reflected in the design theory of industrial buildings. The professorship is the third pillar in the teaching/research field of building design alongside housing and public buildings. Oriented towards an integral planning approach, the professorship is incorporated into the Bachelor’s and master’s programmes of the department of architecture and urban planning, which are taught in German and English, as well as into individual study courses at the department of civil and environmental engineering. Cooperation with the engineering and social science institutes is envisaged.

The university is looking for a candidate who should be distinguished in the above-mentioned fields by high-ranking scientific or artistic publications, and who has several years of work and design experience, including experience gained outside academia, demonstrating outstanding achievements. Special emphasis is placed on the candidate’s own concept-oriented and expressive architectural work, as well as on theoretical and practical expertise in industrial and commercial construction.

Potential applicants have accredited teaching experience. Prerequisite is the willingness to work in the self-government of the department.

The requirements for employment listed in § 47 and § 50 Baden-Württemberg university law apply.
