Randle Siddeley is a leading landscape architecture, construction and maintenance company.

Based in south-west London, we specialise in landscapes and gardens for high-end private residences and commercial developments ranging in value from £30,000 to £3m+.

We are looking for a project landscape architect with a passion for landscape architecture, garden design and plants to join our talented and well established design team and contribute to the creation of beautiful, feasible and compelling designs that can satisfy a range of clients.

To be considered for this role candidates must hold a landscape architecture degree with LI chartered membership, have experience in overseeing and managing landscape designs from start to finish and be eligible to work in the UK.

Role requirements

The project landscape architects will be able to demonstrate a higher level of expertise and have more experience than landscape architects in the following areas, which would enable them to lead small projects under the guidance of more senior staff. They will also adopt a mentoring role towards new landscape architects and junior staff.

Quality  controller:

  • comply with company Project filing systems and ensure that you correctly save project files. Ensure junior colleagues do the same
  • comply with company drawing naming conventions. Ensure junior colleagues do the same
  • comply with company standards for setting up drawings and reports (i.e formatting, text, layer systems, xref’s etc). Ensure junior colleagues do the same
  • ensure quality assurance standards are complied with on all tasks – including ISO, the LI Code of Conduct, building control, planning regulations, BS standards.
  • review all own work and work of LA/ALA before passing on to SLA for review
  • review RSL plant palette proposals and planting plants with the RSL maintenance division to ensure they are fit for purpose

Knowledge/skills:

  • have a complete understanding of the deliverables required to complete a project at each RIBA work stage. Including drawings, specifications, schedules, maintenance and management plans, reports. All in accordance with RSL templates and project deliverables
  • have a strong technical understanding of plant selection, soil analysis, topography, drainage, hardscape installation as required to complete a landscape project
  • have a complete understanding of the UK planning system of how it applies to landscape architecture, identify planning requirements and be able to produce planning application drawings
  • have knowledge of building control regulations as they apply to landscape architecture and ensure projects are designed to be compliant
  • have an understanding of CDM regulations and ensure duties are upheld
  • have a complete understanding of the roles of other consultants in a project team and the coordination needed in order to complete a landscape project
  • project recommend, select, approve and inspect plant materials and appropriate landscape treatments
  • ensure compliance of detailed design packages to relevant standards and determine suitability of details
  • inspect and supervise landscape installations. Coordinating with the construction department or external contractors as required. Inspect and supervise landscape installation. Review, analyse, assess, recommend/condemn work done by landscape contractors and consultants
  • show high degree of confidence when interacting with client, client representative, contract administrator, architect, project manager and understand hierarchical structure of the project and be able to identify the types of information appropriate for distribution to each separate entity
  • attend key presentations on projects as appropriate to the scale and suitability of attendance, demonstrating adequate level of skill in being able to represent the company to the highest standard in meetings and give presentations to third parties
  • actively identify personal skills and knowledge gaps and organise CPD sessions both with your seniors and independently in order to progress
  • deliver bids as agreed with director under supervision of associate

Management:

  • manage projects, with a full understanding of fee proposals and the project deliverables. Fill in project management report for each project that you are managing and ensure that it is kept up to date. Set the project programme and tasks required to deliver the project. Assist junior colleagues with their project management reports and ensure that they are kept up to date
  • show ability to delegate tasks to team members, review progress and compliance against brief and scope of services
  • understand the hours to be spent on tasks and on the project as a whole and work to meet those targets, run reports and provide monthly update on fees to director/associate. Input figures into project management report for own projects and junior colleagues
  • ensure fee proposals deliverables are followed on the project. Identify where additional works are being requested and request fees accordingly
  • resolve any problems that arise in the management of a project – seeking immediate assistance from senior team as required
  • produce accurate meeting minutes pinpointing the key issues of the meeting reflecting the requirements of the project and be able to guide the project forward with accuracy of delivery and ensure LA does the same
