We Plan Your Extension is seeking an architectural technologist or technician to join its team in Somerset, UK.
We are looking for an experienced architectural technologist who would like to join our small practice in Somerset, in the village of Wedmore. This is a full time position with flexible working opportunities in a small office.
Our client base currently covers the south west and the Midlands with a variety of potential projects – ranging from internal renovations to larger extensions and even new build developments! Think house extensions, renovations, outbuilding and barn conversions, loft and garage conversions – you get the idea. At We Plan Your Extension, we take projects through the design phase from our own measured site survey through design stages to achieve planning permission(s) and building regulations approval. We do not currently project manage our jobs on site, though we may to do so in the future.
We aspire to create architecture that is responsive to its context, is joyful to experience & lifts our senses. Our sole emphasis is residential, improving existing homes, designing renovations and extensions. We are looking for a senior architectural technologist to join our building regulations team. You will be instrumental in delivering quality, inspirational designs and technical packages for our clients. We are looking for proactive candidates, who are passionate about working with existing structures. Over time, the role will vary considerably across all RIBA Stages 0-6, from briefing to measured surveys, concept development, design, planning, building regulations and tender. The suitable candidate needs to have a minimum of five years of experience, two years over residential, around the UK after an appropriate architecture technology design qualification.
Architectural duties and responsibilities:
- working with the technical project team
- undertake measured surveys and transform the same to Autocad drawings of the existing building and site
- coordinate preliminary architectural studies for new structures and alterations to existing structures and site development
- lead and develop projects from early concept through design and technical development
- submit and manage planning applications to approval
- prepare working drawings, specification writing and construction documents
- liaising with other industry consultants
- technical detailing for site and updating construction packages
- submit and manage building regulations applications to approval
- consult with clients to determine their requirements
- work with teams, industry consultants across business lines, in remote locations, and coordinate with contractors, subcontractors and suppliers
- resolve complex design issues with innovative and practical solutions
- interest and commitment to developing the practice outlook and culture as we grow
- clarity and confidence in communication; in writing, drawing, on screen and in person
- capable of managing demanding clients, simultaneously working between multiple projects
- willing to collaboratively drive forward the practice’s ambitions
We are looking for individuals who have the following requirements:
- proficient in spoken and written English, with excellent verbal and written communications skills
- architectural technology academic qualification
- excellent AutoCAD skills, Microsoft Office
- excellent design, detailing and presentation skills.
- understanding of project programs and deadlines
- strong knowledge of UK building regulations and current UK building standards
- good knowledge of domestic planning policies (though this can be taught in-house) e.g. permitted development requirements, lawful development, householder planning applications, etc.
- ability to work on multiple projects, excellent timekeeping skills
- experience in managing a team of professionals
- must be able to evaluate, select, and implement architectural procedures and techniques to complete projects
- must be proficient in preparing reports and specifications upon request
- must be able to work independently and collaboratively
- salary depending on experience.
