About TDO

TDO is an AJ 40 under 40 practice founded in 2012. The practice is based in Southwark in a purpose-built studio suspended in a formerly disused railway arch near Tate Modern.

The three founders met at The Bartlett School of Architecture. The practice’s first built project, forest pond house (2013), a timber-framed meditation space and children’s den cantilevered over a garden pond, is emblematic of TDO’s approach: collaboratively designed by all three directors, it is characterised by simple forms, intersecting geometries and exposed materials.

Other built works include: old church street, an infill town house in Chelsea (2015); ‘right to flight’, a rooftop gallery pavilion designed in collaboration with artist James Bridle for Bold Tendencies in Peckham (2015); fab house, low cost modular terrace housing in North Shields, for Places for People and Urban Splash (2018); and the new offices for property specialists The Modern House (2018).

Current projects include the design of rooftop housing on St James’s Road, SE1 for Skyroom, an airspace developer in London specialising in the supply of keyworker homes; great suffolk yard, the redevelopment of industrial warehouse buildings in Southwark into a thriving new workspace, which is currently on site; and the Low Line arches, the adaption and reuse of vacant railway arches along the Low Line in Southwark, which challenges conventional fit outs with innovative proposals supporting local industries.

TDO projects feature regularly in the press and the practice was profiled in The Architecture Foundation’s New Architects 3, the definitive survey of Britain’s best emerging architects, published in 2016.
