Architect
at Robert Rhodes Architecture + Interiors

Robert Rhodes Architecture + Interiors is seeking an experienced architect to join its team in London.

About us

Robert Rhodes Architecture + Interiors is a small, Clerkenwell-based architecture practice, specialising in high-quality custom residential and heritage projects. We are a design-led and relationship-driven practice offering traditional RIBA architectural services. We pride ourselves on our thoughtful and uncomplicated approach. Our work is grounded in our love of old buildings and our believe that if you’re going to do something, you should do it once and do it right.

About you

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic architect capable of leading the studio and running multiple projects independently, with supportive guidance and direction from Robert.

You will need self-motivation, self-confidence, calm and common sense.  You will also need to be well organised, and be able to communicate clearly and compellingly with clients, consultants and contractors.

It is vital that you are familiar with traditional and modern construction methods and materials.  It is also essential that you can convey ideas quickly and convincingly through hand sketches.  You will also need to be very good at AutoCAD LT, SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign and Excel.

The offer

We offer the opportunity to develop your career in a unique position with considerable responsibility and autonomy. We are looking for someone to lead the production team by example; to run the more challenging projects and to oversee the other architects and assistants. You will be in charge of the work the office produces and responsible to the director for their successful and profitable completion.

Essential skills/experience:

  • ARB registration, ideally with Part 3 achieved in the UK. Architects with qualifications not currently recognised by the ARB will be considered if satisfactory relevant experience can be demonstrated
  • demonstrable experience leading UK renovation/extension projects successfully through all Stages
  • exemplary design and technical detailing skills
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • demonstrable problem solving and design sensibilities
  • a calm, measured and diplomatic demeanour
  • working knowledge of the obligations of RIBA professional services contracts
  • working knowledge of RIBA and JCT building contracts, and demonstrable experience in their successful administration
  • working knowledge of UK planning policy and procedure
  • working knowledge of building regulations and CDM requirements; particularly with domestic projects
  • a desire to participate in wider profession

Responsibilities:

  • managing the expectations of our clients
  • producing and coordinating clear, simple, buildable, concise, and correct design information
  • managing consultants and furthering profitable working relationships within the profession
  • administrating building contracts correctly and facilitating site progress while maintaining good relationships with clients and contractors
  • monitoring and achieving practice and project goals, specifically regarding quality, time, and cost
  • developing, implementing, and improving practice procedures and standards
  • developing junior staff and preparing them for future roles
  • contributing to the future development of the practice

Starting salary £50,000, commensurate with experience and aptitude. The position is permanent, full time, and available immediately.
