The role
The role will involve business development across Seymourpowell. Reporting into the head of business development, the business development manager will be expected to take a lead role in driving a number of Seymourpowell’s new business and marketing initiatives. With the autonomy to work independently, the business development manager will work across all company disciplines, to best reflect Seymourpowell’s integrated offer in line with our growth targets and plans for the future.
Background, skills and competencies:
- degree level education
- passionate and knowledgeable about design and the creative services industry
- experience of creation and coordination of marketing plans & new business strategies
- outstanding communication skills with proven ability to manage the end to end sales cycle
- proven track record in growing new business and nurturing client relationships
- proven track record participating in and winning new business pitches
- excellent people skills
- communicate at all levels externally and internally and deal at a senior level with all leads and clients
- full understanding of strategy and ability to discuss this in detail at a senior level
Core responsibilities:
- develop and execute annual business development plans in conjunction with team heads
- responsible for reporting activity and financials against targets
- support and link up with the team heads for specific repeat business actions/initiatives identified in the business development plan
- field, respond to and manage incoming new business enquires and leads
- ensure that there is a current suite of new business credentials in place that align with SP’s strategic goals and brand values
- support the team in writing proposals, liaising between the prospective client and internal team
- responsible for the communication and reporting of appropriate business development and creation of reports and monthly board papers
- work closely with external PR to ensure that our marketing is optimal and targeted (including social media)
- oversee award entries to ensure completion on time and that entry is a winning quality
Specific tasks and KPI’s:
- drive new business in line with quarterly sales and growth targets
- monitor activity and report in the agreed formats and report in weekly commercial team meetings
- ensure database records and contact status is continually up to date and available for directors’ access
- work with the head of business development on the preparation of the new business and marketing plan aligned with budget preparation in Q4 each year, collaborating with key members of staff to create the plan for board approval
- achieve agreed financial new business targets (to be agreed during the new business and marketing plan process in Q4 each year)
- effectively work in line with the marketing and NB budget across the business, providing new ideas, events and initiatives that help drive SP’s reputation and generate new business
