David Kohn Architects is hiring an architect with large scale projects experience to join its team in London.

David Kohn Architects is seeking a Part 3 architect with large scale projects experience and exceptional Revit skills for an instrumental role in the delivery of major masterplanning projects including a mixed use building in Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity to join our award winning studio on a permanent basis.

David Kohn Architects was established in 2007 and has gained an international reputation for the quality of its design. We collaborate with our clients, consultant teams and end users to deliver highly tailored schemes that exceed expectations. We are currently working on projects including a new campus for New College Oxford, a mixed use building in Birmingham in collaboration with a local arts organisation and an architecture faculty in Belgium. Supporting our clients in the drive towards carbon negative futures is a critically important part of our current and future work.

The role

As an Architect at David Kohn Architects, you will have a pivotal role in delivering ambitious packages, sections of projects or whole projects with leading consultant teams for inspiring and often demanding clients. You will be the day-to-day project / package lead and are expected to take responsibility for the role and to communicate regularly and effectively with your junior team members and line managers on progress and any issues. Essential skills:

  • demonstrate solid experience in large scale and mixed-use projects
  • regulations savvy with strong understanding of UK processes and standards
  • demonstrable track record of running projects from inception to completion
  • experience in delivering low carbon/BREEAM excellent or outstanding designs
  • commercially astute with track record of projects delivered within constraints such as agreed timescales, construction cost and internal resource budget
  • ability to coordinate and manage external technical staff, consultants, and contractors
  • a sensitive and rigorous approach to brief development, design and materiality supported by a portfolio of the highest quality
  • CAD. High proficiency in BIM (Revit), Vectorworks, 3D modelling and rendering skills, In-Design and Photoshop software
  • strong presentation skills with an emphasis on hand sketching
  • ability to communicate complex issues, verbally, in writing, and through drawings and models, to different audiences and to lead clients comfortably through the design process
  • highly organised, be able to prioritise both the design team’s and your own internal team’s work to meet deadlines under pressure
  • ability to develop creative solutions such that the interests of different stakeholders are appropriately addressed
  • ability to hand draw ideas, plans and details confidently in design discussions
  • understanding of physical model-making and ability to direct the assistants to explore and deliver ideas efficiently
  • knowledge of architectural history, the work of David Kohn Architects and the practice’s design approach
