Part 2 architectural assistant/recently qualified architect
at A Small Studio

A Small Studio is hiring a Part 2 architectural assistant or recently qualified architect to join its team in London.

A Small Studio is a chartered architecture practice based in south London. This year we were shortlisted by the British Council to be curators of the 2025 British Pavilion in Venice for our project ‘Shared Grounds‘. Last year, we won the 2023 Don’t Move Improve! Urban Oasis Awards for ‘Kitchen in the Woods‘. In 2020 we were longlisted by Dezeen Awards as emerging architect studio of the year, and in the same year, the AF included A Small Studio in its ‘New Architects 4’ volume.

We are a dynamic studio with a variety of projects that include cultural, public realm, residential and community work. We are small, friendly and informal. We want a team of great designers and curious makers with good interpersonal skills. We are based in West Norwood (SE27) in a studio converted from an off-license into a workspace.

This is ideal for someone who wants site experience to undertake their Part 3, or for a recently qualified architect who wants a change of scenery to join an expanding practice with a community-focused approach.

What we’re looking for

Dedicated, motivated individuals who enjoy visiting sites and working closely with builders on details and site challenges. Good designers and an interest in detailing is essential. Candidates should have excellent communication skills and be well-organised and self-motivated. We want someone proactive that will contribute to our studio life.

Requirements:

  • Vectorworks/Adobe Suite/SketchUp
  • likes working in a team and collaborating with others
  • enthusiastic and pro-active
  • self-motivated
  • interested in contributing to the studio ethos and thinking outside of box on new and speculative projects
  • some experience working across all RIBA stages, especially in technical design
  • RIBA Part 2 qualification
  • excellent writing and presentation skills
  • have the right to work in the UK

Our salary structure is based on the RIBA salary guide 2023. We offer a pension scheme, a health-assured membership which is an employee assistance programme for wellbeing and we make a yearly studio trip somewhere in Europe. We are flexible with working arrangements and are open to different work patterns that suit the candidate, but this is ideally a full-time post.

We are international, multilingual (Korean, Greek, Spanish and English speakers) and enjoy diversity. We are an equal opportunities employer.
