Jane Withers Studio is seeking a researcher and writer to join its team for maternity cover in London, UK.
Fixed-term contract, with initial nine month term for maternity cover and the potential to develop a lasting relationship.
Minimum of three days per week, London-based.
Design consultancy, curation and research studio seeks talented and motivated researcher and writer to work in our London studio. Jane Withers Studio focuses on design research and sustainable practices across a range of projects including exhibitions, publications, design strategy and research programmes internationally. This role will initially focus on a museum exhibition project as a maternity cover position, with work on other projects alongside this.
The successful candidate will have proven research and curation skills in design and architecture, as well as solid editorial experience. They must demonstrate a strong knowledge and keen interest in design, architecture and culture, social design and sustainability, as well as experience in project coordination. They will be experienced in working on multiple projects at once and take a pro-active approach to meeting targets and deadlines for a varied portfolio of design projects. In addition to playing a central role in studio projects, the successful candidate will contribute to the general office administration. The position would suit someone with a post-graduate degree or a minimum of three years’ of relevant professional experience.
Jane Withers Studio is a leading design and curatorial consultancy and provides design-led strategy, curation and creative direction to global cultural organisations and brands. The studio has a long record of working with sustainability and has a particular interest in raising awareness of environmental issues and inspiring change through design. Jane Withers recently curated BIO27, the 27th Design Biennial of Ljubljana, on the theme Super Vernaculars – Design for a Regenerative Future. The studio draws on an extensive network of architects, designers and professional and academic experts from different fields as collaborators on each project.

Personal profile:
- excellent research skills. The ability to deep-dive into research, taking a thorough and imaginative approach to a broad range of subjects that often fall beyond the conventional boundaries of design
- exceptional communication and writing skills and be able to explore and express complex and original ideas
- concept development
- work within the studio team to research, explore and develop concepts for exhibitions, publications and strategy projects
- presentation skills. The candidate should be able to develop a clear narrative and create coherent and engaging presentations
- articulate and with an eye for detail. Work for the studio must always be clearly expressed with a keen eye for detail
- ability to work flexibly in a demanding environment and plan and work both independently and within a collaborative team
- background and strong interest in contemporary design and architecture. Postgraduate degree in the field preferred, otherwise demonstrable knowledge and interest is essential
- confident and dynamic
- excellent IT skills and Microsoft Office. Experience operating in a fast-paced environment
- desirable – graphic design experience/InDesign and Adobe Suite skills
