London, UK
Landscape designer
at Trees for Cities
Trees for Cities has a vacancy for a landscape designer to join its team in London.
Are you available to support a national environmental charity in delivering green interventions that bring positive change to inner cities? If you are an experienced landscape architect or designer, then Trees for Cities would like your support to create interactive and dynamic growing spaces in schools, and to scope site locations and designs for tree planting and woodland schemes in public open spaces.
The role
This is a freelance six month contract.
Over the next six months Trees for Cities has an exciting programme of work lined up for the design and delivery of woodlands and school playground projects across the UK. Projects incorporate new trees and community woodlands, food growing, outdoor learning spaces, rain gardens, orchards and hedges as part of our Urban Forest, Edible Playgrounds, Trees for Schools and Planting Healthy Air programmes. Our aim is to ensure each project is responsive to its surroundings, the needs of local groups, communities, partners and funders.
You will be confident and experienced in use of VectorWorks, InDesign, the usual Microsoft packages, a good communicator and a safe pair of hands to operate independently to deliver high quality designs, robust technical details and specifications. Ideally you will have demonstrable experience in practice with at least three years experience InDesign, specification and construction of both hard and softworks packages. You will have excellent tree and horticultural knowledge and be comfortable in working with simple, modular construction details, able to problem solve for each unique site.
Perhaps you have taken time out of the rat race, or are freelancing and able to pick and choose the type of work you want to be involved in. What better opportunity to make real changes at local level that will benefit communities who need green and healthy spaces the most whilst reconnecting those urban communities with nature. If you are available for six months’ consultancy services as a freelancer, or as a member of staff on a temporary contract, then Trees for Cities would like to hear from you.
