Weber Industries is a bespoke fabrication and design consultancy studio based in Southeast London. We work with architects, artists, designers and private clients to realise a diverse range of projects, from residential interiors and modular architecture to unique objects for creative and commercial settings.
About the role
We are looking for an experienced designer/project manager to join our team. As a designer/project manager, you will play a key role in our studio and onsite team, taking the lead on delivering bespoke projects at a range of scales. In this varied and dynamic role, your key responsibilities will include client liaison and design development, as well as managing procurement and logistics in close collaboration with our fabrication team.
You will bring experience of design development and project management, with a professional background in architectural design, shopfitting and/or design for manufacture. You will have specialist skills in 3D modelling and data management. You will approach projects creatively and holistically by assimilating your knowledge of design and making. In all aspects of the role, designer/project managers will uphold the excellent standard of service that our clients expect from Weber Industries.
Key tasks:
- work efficiently to maintain project programmes and deliver work within budget
- develop fabrication designs in dialogue with our team, clients and specialist subcontractors, such as architects and structural engineers
- use Rhino to create 3D models and drawings for fabrication
- oversee works undertaken by junior designers on assigned projects
- be the main point of contact for client liaison on assigned projects
- maintain the flow of communication within the project team and with management, including leading team briefings and representing the company at project meetings
- proactively adapt to client needs, prioritising tasks for yourself and your project team
- work in collaboration with the fabrication team to deliver work in the studio and onsite
- contribute to project costings and manage issuing of valuations for your project as required
- contribute to studio programmes, including planning materials, resources and site logistics for your project
- manage data and documentation of current and completed projects
- maintain and develop client relationships and support new project bids
- ensure project works are undertaken in accordance with the company’s health and safety policy and relevant RAMS
- maintain a clean and safe working area, with responsibility for ensuring project works are undertaken with care and consideration
- manage your time effectively to ensure the team works together to meet project deadlines
- foster good working relationships within the team, engendering a collaborative and supportive working environment
- represent the company in a positive and professional manner at all times
Key requirements:
- minimum of three years’ professional industry experience (essential)
- training in architectural design, shopfitting and/or design for manufacture, such as BA, ARB/RIBA Part 3 or equivalent (essential)
- proficiency with Rhino for 3D modelling and drawing (essential)
- experience of project management (essential)
- understanding of CDM and health and safety regulations, and best practice for compliance (essential)
- excellent organisational and time management skills with ability to prioritise (essential)
- experience of data management in Excel (essential)
- strong verbal, interpersonal and comprehensive skills (essential)
- right to work in the UK without restrictions (essential)
- use of Grasshopper and related CAD software (desirable)
- awareness of architectural practice and building regulations (desirable)
- awareness of UKCA production standards (desirable)
- making skills, eg. woodwork, metalwork, general construction and mechanical (desirable)
- experience working onsite in a construction environment (desirable)
- confident to use tools, fixed machinery and portable equipment (desirable)
- understanding of digital fabrication methods, such as CNC-machining and laser cutting (desirable)
- current CSCS card or equivalent construction qualification (desirable)
