Mid-weight interior designer

Rebecca Hughes Interiors is seeking a mid-weight interior designer to join its team in London.

Rebecca Hughes Interiors, is a creatively driven established design studio, utilising a collaborative approach with its clients to transform space. You will be working solely from our Islington studio.

This is a full-time position with an immediate start.

About the role

This role is based at our head office in Islington, London. This position would suit an enthusiastic and motivated person with an immaculate design skill set as well as strong project management skills. It requires a proactive, articulate and diligent person who has the drive to both manage and assist on various projects helping to deliver our high quality service.

Working hours 9am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday.

Job description and responsibilities:

  • confidently take a project from concept to completion
  • working to a written or verbal brief, which details how each individual space will be used
  • FF&E space planning, having a very good idea of what is possible and what is not and confidently communicate this to both client and contractor
  • produce schemes independently based on the client’s brief
  • produce sketches and technical drawings to clearly communicate design ideas
  • put together client presentations
  • managing projects efficiently, within schedule and within budget in close cooperation with lead interior designer as a member of project team
  • create full project cost schedules and budgets inc FF&E in Estimac
  • source and procure new and and antique FF&E
  • develop detailed specifications for each element of the design (window treatment, ironmongery, joinery, sanitaryware, hard finishes, etc.)
  • work closely with contractors and suppliers to ensure the design and quality are executed as per the specification and to the highest standard
  • coordinating all aspects of the FF&E procurement and installation process
  • confidently meeting with client’s and contractor’s independently from the creative director and senior team
  • supervise Junior Designers and Studio Interns when necessary

What you will need:

  • BA (Hons) in interior design or Diploma
  • three plus years’ experience in the residential interior design sector
  • strong portfolio of completed or live projects

The ideal candidate will:

  • be proficient in AutoCAD, Photoshop, Estimac, Microsoft Office (inc. Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • confidently take a project from concept to completion
  • have the ability to rationally and intellectually discuss and debate design ideas
  • competent in the production of all drawings, product specifications, sign off and review of technical drawings and details
  • have the ability to set and uphold programmes, stick to deadlines, with excellent project management at all times
  • ability to source and procure FF&E packages & work on multiple projects at any one time
  • travel to visit projects locally and abroad
  • self-confident and receptive to constructive feedback
  • comfortable with a client facing role and acting as a representative of the company
  • good financial understanding of project knowledge, including FF&E and finishes
  • a wide understanding of suppliers in the high end residential sector
  • have an enthusiastic, positive, can-do attitude
  • ability to work well in a team and individually
  • be a proactive problem-solver
  • strong multitasking skills
  • be a self-starter
