Product designer / CAD designer – lightweight panel product prototypes
at Innovac

Innovac is looking for a product designer / CAD designer to join its team in Berlin, Germany.

We are looking for a creative and technically skilled product designer / CAD designer to help turn this new material platform into practical prototype products such as simple furniture, storage boxes, shelving units, cabinets, room dividers and modular connection systems.

This role sits between product design, CAD, prototyping and practical product development.

The right person should be able to move from concept to CAD to real-world prototypes, while thinking creatively and technically at the same time.

Responsibilities:

  • develop product concepts using lightweight panel materials and modular profiles
  • create CAD models, drawings and technical details for furniture, boxes and panel assemblies
  • design connection solutions, edge caps, inserts, profiles and simple hardware interfaces
  • prepare manufacturing drawings and files for CNC cutting, routing, welding, bending, assembly and prototyping
  • work closely with engineering, workshop and production partners to adapt designs to real fabrication limits
  • support the development of modular product families based on standard board sizes, profiles and connection principles
  • create visual renderings and presentation material for customers, partners and investors
  • improve prototypes based on practical testing, assembly experience and feedback

Required skills:

  • strong CAD experience, preferably with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino, Inventor, AutoCAD or similar
  • good understanding of product design, furniture design, industrial design or technical product development
  • ability to design practical parts with tolerances, joints, fasteners and assembly details
  • experience with sheet materials, panels, plastics, furniture, exhibition systems, modular structures or lightweight product systems
  • ability to move from concept sketches to production-ready CAD drawings
  • creative but practical mindset
  • interest in sustainable materials, circular product design and real-world prototyping

Nice to have:

  • experience with CNC routing, plastic welding, thermoforming, extrusion profiles or sheet fabrication
  • knowledge of furniture hardware, connectors, hinges, edge finishing or modular systems
  • experience with sustainable materials, recycled materials or lightweight structures
  • rendering skills for product presentations

Goal of the role:

The goal is to turn a new lightweight panel material into real prototype products that demonstrate its potential in furniture, boxes, modular interiors and structural lightweight applications.

This is not a purely conceptual design role and not a purely desk-based CAD role. We are looking for someone who can design with creativity, technical understanding and a strong sense for practical execution.
