The German University in Cairo invites applications for vacancies to be filled effective September 2025 or February 2026.

The GUC is seeking highly qualified and motivated candidates to join the Architecture and Urban Design Program. Description

We invite applications for a full-time faculty position in the visual design and presentation department. The department emphasises a comprehensive approach to architectural and spatial design representation, integrating both analog and digital presentation skills. We are seeking a creative architect who possesses a strong foundation in both traditional and digital representation techniques and has the ability to bridge these methods effectively. The ideal candidate should have a forward-thinking approach to visual communication and be interested in exploring new media and technologies relevant to architecture and design.

The department fosters an experimental and exploratory approach to architectural and spatial design, encouraging the use of contemporary media techniques that resonate with architecture, design, and artistic practice in the broadest sense.

  • lead design studios at both undergraduate and graduate levels, focusing on the integration of visual communication with architectural and spatial design
  • offer advanced elective courses on innovative topics relevant to architecture, spatial design, interior design, visual communication, and architectural representation
  • supervise research: guide BSc, MSc, and Ph.D. theses, with a focus on visual communication and architectural representation
  • research and collaboration: engage in interdisciplinary research activities and collaborations with other university faculties, departments and academies of arts
  • curriculum development: contribute to the development and enhancement of the visual design curriculum, incorporating emerging technologies and methodologies

Qualifications:

  • educational background: a doctorate/Ph.D. in architecture (spatial design/interior design) or a related field of visual communication would be welcome
  • professional experience: several years of practical and teaching experience in architecture (spatial design/interior design) or in a field of visual communication related to architecture
  • portfolio requirements: professional practice portfolio – demonstrating executed work by the applicant or projects completed under their direct supervision
  • teaching portfolio: examples of work undertaken with students, clearly documenting the candidate’s pedagogical and didactic skills
  • technical proficiency: proficiency in both traditional and digital presentation skills, including: traditional (drawing, painting, sculpture, model making, and photography) and digital (CAD software, rendering, architectural visualisation, AR/VR and hybrid representation techniques, 3D printing)
  • language proficiency: excellent communication skills and proficiency in English, as it is the language of instruction
  • forward-thinking approach: a commitment to integrating emerging technologies into the curriculum and fostering a forward-looking perspective on visual communication in architecture

Application instruction

Interested candidates should submit the following:

  • a cover letter detailing their research interests, teaching philosophy, and practical experience in visual design and architectural representation
  • curriculum vitae
  • professional practice portfolio showcasing design work and a teaching portfolio with examples of student projects
