Snøhetta is hiring a senior architect to join its team in Hong Kong.

Snøhetta is a transdisciplinary, dialogue-driven practice including architecture, landscape architecture, interior architecture, art, product design, graphic and digital design, often integrating a combination of interests across our projects.

We are seeking a senior architect to join Snøhetta Asia team based in the Hong Kong office for a full-time permanent contract. The role to be a key project team member within the office focussing on design and technical resolution of our projects.

The right candidate will have 10 to 12 years’ of experience leading projects across a versatile range of scales. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully leading projects across various scales, extensive experience navigating competitive project environments, and international exposure, especially in Asia, is essential. Proficient in English is required, and additional language skills in Japanese, Chinese, or Korean will be advantageous for this position.

As a Senior Architect in Snøhetta Asia, you will be welcomed into an open and transdisciplinary team. You will lead high-profile international projects, tackling complex design challenges that foster professional growth and innovation.

You will work both independently and collaboratively, leading projects at various stages while mentoring junior designers. You should demonstrate strong capabilities in delivering projects and coordinating teams. Your role will also involve team management and business development, contributing to the studio’s acquisitions efforts.

Your role and responsibilities:

  • develop and lead unique architectural concepts that align with project goals and client expectations while addressing functional and aesthetic needs
  • conduct thorough site analyses and feasibility studies to inform design decisions and enhance project viability
  • integrate innovative materials and technologies to elevate the design quality and sustainability of projects
  • leverage experience in competitive project environments to navigate challenges and deliver high-quality results
  • created detailed project timelines and ensure adherence to milestones, adjusting plans as necessary to meet deadlines
  • facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration to harmonise architectural, structural, and environment considerations
  • foster a collaborative environment by encouraging open dialogue and creative input from all team members
  • provide clear communication of design ideas and articulate constructive feedback to enhance project outcomes
  • mentor junior architects and team members, sharing past experiences and knowledge to support their professional development
  • organise workshops and training sessions to enhance team capabilities and keep skills current with industry advancements
  • build and maintain long-term partnerships with clients, establishing trust and understanding their evolving needs and aspirations
  • take a proactive approach to client engagement, leading pivotal presentations and workshops to collaboratively refine design concepts
  • foster client loyalty by delivering exceptional service and consistently exceeding expectations, positioning the firm as a trusted architectural partner
  • establish and maintain budget plans specific to architectural project aspects, including materials, labor, third party vendors and design features
  • responsible for ensuring project financial targets are on track; to report and forecast financial updates to stakeholders
  • cultivate relationships with potential clients and stakeholders, fostering a reputation for reliability and expertise in architectural services
  • actively participate in the studio acquisition efforts, identifying new business opportunities and fostering relationships that could lead to future projects

Who can apply?

  • master’s degree in architecture; holder of a recognised professional architectural license is beneficial
  • a minimum of 10 to 12 years’ of professional experience in the architecture field
  • proven international experience, especially in Asia
  • proven record of successfully leading projects across various scales
  • extensive experience navigating competitive project environments
  • proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Japanese, Chinese or Korean will be considered a plus for this position
  • a robust dedication to pioneering design solutions that optimize functionality, enhance user experience, and champion sustainable practices is crucial for this position

Technical skills:

  • expert in architectural design software (e.g. AutoCAD, Rhino, Grasshopper, Revit, Enscape and Adobe Creative Suite)
  • skilled in producing high-quality drawings and specifications that meet industry standards
  • in-depth knowledge of local building codes and regulations for safe and legal designs
  • excellent digital presentation skills; ability to confidently pitch design concepts to clients, effectively communicating vision and value
  • proficient in utilising collaboration platforms (e.g., Miro, Microsoft Teams) to enhance team communication, streamline workflows, and facilitate real-time project collaboration
  • skilled in resolving conflicts and addressing client concerns effectively to maintain positive relationships
  • able to communicate ideas and designs clearly to both internal teams and clients
  • skilled at juggling multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining quality and focus
  • proven ability to delegate technical tasks effectively to team members, ensuring optimal workflow and project success
