Part 1 assistant/Part 2/junior technician

Michael Swords Studio is looking for a Part 1 assistant/Part 2/junior technician to join its team remotely in London or the UK.
We’re looking to expand our team to assist with ongoing projects. Ideally, this will be a Korean-speaking assistant to provide support on specific ongoing projects, although we welcome all suitable applicants. This could be:
- a Part 1 assistant or, a recently graduated Part 2, with a strong interest in heritage and ecclesiastical work
- a junior architectural technician or surveyor with experience in conservation and a real interest in church buildings
This is a remote-first role, ideally based in or around London, though we are also open to applicants located elsewhere within the UK, who are willing to travel for site visits when required. We are happy to consider flexible working hours and applicants looking for a part-time role.
The role will include:
- preparation of heritage and planning documents, including Heritage Statements and Design and Access Statements
- drawing and specification preparation support for RIBA Stages 2–4
- assistance with on-site projects
- assistance with quinquennial inspections and faculty applications
- input on reordering feasibility studies and conservation projects for churches
- support with condition surveys, including preparation of marked-up drawings and survey reports
- technical detailing, conservation-led design thinking, and archival or planning research
The role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a varied portfolio of heritage projects spanning all RIBA work stages. It will include a balance of conservation work and heritage consultancy, with a particular emphasis on ecclesiastical commissions. The successful candidate will support the director in his capacity as inspecting architect to several churches, with responsibilities including site-based condition surveys and the preparation of related reports. This position is ideally suited to someone who enjoys both on-site work in historic buildings and the research-led discipline of archival investigation.
Qualifications required:
- bachelor’s degree in architecture or equivalent
- strong organisational, creative, and presentation skills
- proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit would be advantageous also
- demonstrated clarity of written expression, with a high standard of presentation
- evidence of academic rigour and attention to detail in submitted application materials
- experience in technical detailing is highly advantageous
