at Hemingway Design

Hemingway Design is hiring a multidisciplinary designer (architecture, interiors and placemaking) to join its team in London.

Hemingway Design are seeking a multidisciplinary designer to work across architecture, interiors, urban design and placemaking projects. We’re looking for a dynamic, creative person who enjoys working at multiple scales – from strategic thinking to detailed design and delivery.

Full-time, permanent, London studio.

About HemingwayDesign

We are a multidisciplinary design studio whose work spans culture-led regeneration, urban design, community-focused placemaking, large-scale multi-arts festivals, brand and graphic identity, interior architecture, and more. Our speciality lies in working with people and places to create positive social impact.

Key responsibilities:

  • architecture and interiors: contribute to building and interior projects from concept through delivery – developing layouts, finishes, FF&E proposals, and material palettes, and producing drawings, specifications, tender packages, and detailed design
  • urban and public realm design: support strategy and design  including site analysis, spatial layouts, vision documents, and concept proposals
  • placemaking and activations: support event layouts, wayfinding, installations, and temporary infrastructure for placemaking events and activations
  • visual communication: create compelling visualisations, diagrams, and narratives that communicate spatial ideas and strategic intent at different scales
  • research and analysis: conduct site studies, precedent reviews, and community engagement to inform design strategies
  • collaboration: work closely with clients, stakeholders, consultants, fabricators, and contractors to deliver design intent across disciplines

What we’re looking for:

  • ability to think and design across scales – from urban/public realm strategies to architectural and interior design
  • experience producing architectural and interior drawing packages (plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules)
  • ability to contribute to the development and delivery of  placemaking strategies, spatial frameworks, and community-engaged design processes
  • exceptional visual, written, and verbal communication skills, able to present ideas clearly
  • professional-level proficiency in AutoCAD (or equivalent), Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), and SketchUp (or equivalent).
  • eye for both detail and the bigger picture; confident working independently and collaboratively
  • degree in architecture, interior architecture, urban design, or a related discipline
  • two to five years’ studio experience in a multidisciplinary practice (desirable but not essential)

What we offer:

  • a collaborative studio culture
  • opportunity to work on meaningful, high-impact projects across a wide range of sectors
  • competitive salary based on experience, plus annual reviews
  • room to grow as part of a values-led B-Corp business
  • one WFH day per week (usually Wednesday)
  • four weeks’ paid holiday, plus bank holidays
  • studio currently operates a four-day working week in July and August
  • spacious studio with a sunny garden/outdoor working area and two friendly office dogs
  • pension scheme and professional development support
