Head of furniture design
at Laplace
Laplace is hiring a head of furniture design to join its team in Paris.
Laplace is urgently looking for a motivated, talented and ambitious head of furniture design with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience to work in its Paris office on high-end interior residential projects.
Candidates will lead the furniture design department. They will manage the team of furniture designers developing bespoke furniture pieces for our projects and our furniture line while supporting R&D initiatives. They should demonstrate excellent leadership skills.
Key responsibilities
General:
- collaborate tightly with the founders to define the department strategy and priorities
- participate in project meetings, effectively communicating with the principal to grasp project requirements and objectives
- maintain a keen awareness of the agency’s expectations and priorities
- forge close collaboration with the FF&E department and the architecture department to ensure coherence in aesthetics, functionality, and dimensions across project deliverables
- organise a small team of furniture designers dedicated to the design and development of furniture tailored to diverse architectural projects
- manage the production schedules to ensure timely project delivery
Design responsibilities:
- showcase proactive initiative by introducing innovative concepts and solutions, leveraging your designer prowess
- generate furniture designs in both 3D and 2D formats
- conduct thorough material research to enhance proposed designs
- uphold proposals that align with ergonomic principles and manufacturability feasibility
- solicit and assess quotations to maintain cost-effectiveness
- monitor production processes: validate shop drawings, prototypes, and material samples, ensuring adherence to quality standards and regulatory compliance from inception to installation
- ensure quality control through photo or workshop visits
- assist the architecture team with drawings and technical development for specific built-in furniture pieces
- contribute to the design and evolution of the furniture line
- ensure aesthetic and technical consistency across all designs
- participate in workshops, materials, and technique research
- contribute to moodboards and creative research
- support the development of innovative furniture solutions
Required qualifications:

- curiosity and openness to exploration
Software proficiency:
- expertise in Rhinocéros software for both 3D and 2D design
- experience with Enscape for rendering purposes
- proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Suite
- knowledge of project management tools and Pack Office
- knowledge of SketchUp is advantageous
- basic knowledge of Autocad is appreciated
Employment requirements:
- EU passport
- lives in Paris or able to relocate at short notice
- fluent in English and French, Spanish would be a plus
- ready to start ASAP
