Surrey, UK
Mid-weight interior designer
at Susan Venn
Susan Venn is hiring a mid-weight interior designer to join its team in Surrey, UK.
Who we are
We are a light-filled period studio in the heart of Godalming, Surrey, delivering award-winning, high-end residential interiors across the South East and beyond.
We believe in the power of great design and the craft behind it, creating homes rooted in comfort, practicality and longevity. Our projects often involve full refurbishments and close collaboration with architects, contractors and specialist makers.
We do not have a house style. Instead, we design a wide range of contemporary interiors grounded in a strong understanding of colour, texture and materiality.
We run an organised studio with clear stages and robust systems, embracing technology to support our team and deliver a smooth, structured process for clients.
We are therefore looking for a versatile designer who enjoys adapting their creativity to different briefs and feels confident leading interior architecture packages, from bespoke joinery through to lighting design.
About the role
We are looking for a confident and technically strong mid-weight interior designer to take ownership of defined project stages within our high-end residential portfolio. As a small, hands-on team, you will work closely with the directors and play a meaningful role in shaping each project.
You will manage your projects independently, contribute to the evolution of each scheme and confidently move designs from concept through to on-site delivery. A solid technical foundation and a clear understanding of build processes are essential.
We value initiative and considered thinking. You will be encouraged to put your own stamp on your designs, take responsibility and play an active role in shaping projects within a collaborative studio environment.
What you’ll be responsible for:
- lead assigned projects from concept through to completion
- develop confident space planning solutions aligned to architectural constraints and client brief
- produce detailed technical drawing packages in AutoCAD, including joinery and lighting layouts
- independently source and specify FF&E, preparing accurate schedules
- manage supplier liaison, quotations and procurement tracking
- attend client and site meetings, presenting ideas clearly and resolving queries professionally
- coordinate with contractors, architects and specialist trades during implementation
- support and mentor junior colleagues where appropriate
What you’ll bring:
- minimum three to five years’ experience in high-end residential interior design
- strong technical ability with proven experience producing detailed drawing packages including joinery, bathroom and lighting designs.
- solid understanding of bespoke joinery and construction processes
- commercially aware and comfortable managing budgets, balancing creativity with practical realities
- excellent written and verbal communication skills
- proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp and Estimac
- own car and full UK driving licence.
Why join us?
We combine a genuine passion for design with a practical, roll-your-sleeves-up approach and a culture where hard work and enjoyment go hand in hand.
We offer:
- a close-knit, collaborative studio where everyone’s voice is valued
- the option to WFH on Fridays
- a generous annual leave allowance of 33 days including bank holidays
- company pension contribution
- a beautiful, light-filled studio in the heart of Godalming with free parking
- ongoing training and opportunities for professional development
- regular visits to projects, galleries, showrooms and design fairs
- team days out and studio socials
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm.
