The role
We are seeking a talented intermediate product designer (technical design and engineering) to join our London studio.
This is a hands-on design role for someone who enjoys solving complex design challenges and seeing their work realised. You will work closely with the wider design team to develop bespoke lighting installations from initial sketches through to manufacture, installation and commissioning.
Every project is unique, offering the opportunity to work directly with craftspeople, manufacturers and installers to bring ambitious concepts to life.
The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable developing creative concepts, producing detailed CAD models, resolving technical challenges and collaborating with suppliers and production partners.
Key responsibilities:
- develop bespoke lighting concepts from design brief through to manufacture and installation
- create accurate 3D CAD models and detailed manufacturing drawings
- translate sketches, renders and design intent into engineered solutions
- research materials, manufacturing processes and emerging technologies
- liaise directly with specialist suppliers, fabricators and artisans
- assist with prototyping, testing and product development
- produce presentations, technical documentation and client-facing material
- support project delivery throughout production and installation phases
- visit manufacturers, workshops and project sites as required
- assist with the installation and commissioning of bespoke lighting installations in the UK and internationally
- work across multiple projects while managing deadlines and priorities
Skills and experience
Essential:
- two to five years’ experience in product, furniture, lighting, industrial or related design fields
- strong CAD skills including Rhino, SolidWorks and AutoCAD
- proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and KeyShot
- experience producing technical and manufacturing drawings
- good understanding of materials, manufacturing and assembly processes
- ability to translate design concepts into practical and manufacturable solutions
- confidence communicating with suppliers, manufacturers and installation teams
- practical and hands-on approach
- comfortable working both in the studio and on site
- well organised and able to manage multiple live projects simultaneously
- willingness to travel to manufacturers and project sites when required
Desirable:
- experience within bespoke lighting, furniture or luxury interiors
- knowledge of metalwork, glass, stone and decorative finishes
- understanding of lighting components and electrical integration
- knowledge of electrical, lighting safety and compliance standards, including UK and international requirements
- understanding of lighting control systems and dimming protocols
- experience working directly with manufacturers, suppliers and installers
- full UK driving licence
Place of work: Nulty Bespoke Offices in Waterloo, London.
Hours: Monday to Friday 9.00-17.30
Salary/package: commensurate with experience.
