Interior design assistant

There is an opportunity for an interior design assistant to join Philippa Thorp Design at its studio in London. 

Main function

To assist the creative design team – both architectural and interior design) in their everyday tasks.

Reports to: senior interior designer

Responsibilities

  • prepare client presentations on InDesign
  • make scheme and finishes boards for client meetings
  • assist with drawing furniture layouts and elevations on VectorWorks using Thorp templates
  • create 3D visuals where necessary, either free hand or CAD
  • order cuttings and samples and keep records of them
  • correspondence with clients, suppliers and contractors (written and verbal)
  • compile soft furnishing estimates on FileMaker
  • place orders for soft furnishings on FileMaker and monitor progress
  • sign off invoices for the accountant
  • attend site visits when necessary
  • arrange collections/deliveries of furnishing items
  • assist with final installation of projects
  • assist with sourcing of furnishings, art and decorative items
  • assist FF&E manager with updating schedules
  • to be responsible for booking/organising all supplier reps and informing relevant people beforehand.
  • maintain diary
  • visit Chelsea Harbour and other showrooms when necessary
  • read interiors magazines, make note of interesting new suppliers and inform design team
  • to make sure the fabric room is kept organised and tidy
  • to make sure the library is organised and kept up to date with new samples
  • answer telephones – preferably before 2 rings. All messages to be emailed to recipient
  • to maintain general tidiness of the office, especially kitchen and hallway
  • assist at client meetings
  • assist with managing the Thorp Instagram account

  • driving licence with London driving experience

  • intelligence – ability to think and take decisions unaided
  • artistic, with interest in design and interiors
  • basic freehand drawing/sketching skills
  • computer skills – Word, Excel, Photoshop, InDesign, Filemaker, Outlook
  • ability and inclination to learn basic Vectorworks
  • high standard of numeracy
  • well presented and turned out
