Douglas A. Garofalo fellowship
UIC School of Architecture is offering a fully paid fellowship in Chicago.
The School of Architecture, in the college of architecture, design, and the arts at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), is proud to announce the search for the Douglas A. Garofalo fellowship for the 2018–2019 academic year. Named in honor of award-winning architect and educator Doug Garofalo (1958–2011), this nine-month teaching fellowship provides emerging designers the opportunity to teach design studio and seminar courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs and conduct independent design research. The fellowship also includes a public lecture and exhibition in the spring.
Now in it’s fifth year, the Garofalo fellowship has become an essential part of the UIC School of Architecture through the intellectual and pedagogical contributions of the fellows, including, Molly Hunker (SPORTS), Pier Paolo Tamburelli (Baukuh), Sarah Blankenbaker, Francesco Marullo (Behemoth Press), and, our current fellow, Fosco Lucarelli (Microcities and SOCKS).
UIC is one of the nation’s major urban public research universities. From this context, the School of Architecture maintains that the purpose of architecture is to anticipate, provoke, and challenge. - curriculum vitae with three references
- fellowship research proposal consisting of a statement of intent (500–750 words) as well as a portfolio of selected projects and previous design work in connection to the proposal (30 pages maximum)
Applications must be received by 11:59 pm CST on January 19, 2018. Finalists should be prepared to visit the School for an interview and public presentation in early March, 2018.
