SimpsonHaugh is recruiting a business development and communications associate in London.

SimpsonHaugh is looking for a proactive business development and communications associate with experience in the architectural, design or construction industries to provide the practice with strategic guidance and support for all business development (BD), bidding, marketing and communications activities.

This is a great opportunity for you to contribute to our design-led practice in a meaningful way and further evolve the role based on your capability and initiative. You have the expertise, creativity and tenacity to advise, collaborate and support our partner and senior teams in identifying new business opportunities and promoting the practice.

The variety of the role requires an organised approach to anticipate, prioritise and plan a busy workload. You are supported by and manage the graphic designer and, on an ad-hoc basis, the office assistant. While based in London, the role offers practice-wide support and guidance, building trusted and effective working relationships with our team across both London and Manchester studios is important to reinforcing our One Practice culture.

Duties include…

Business development:

  • with the partners, establish appropriate communications opportunities with potential and existing clients, such as newsletters, catch up meetings, social invitations and networking opportunities
  • support the practice’s business development activities by producing important research, content and supporting materials
  • support business development group meetings, offering advice and direction as appropriate
  • establish and monitor database of networking events and liaise with senior team members on appropriate attendance and feedback
  • develop, coordinate and conduct client feedback
  • help establish and maintain a contacts database including existing and potential clients
  • represent the practice at networking events
  • support bid teams with coordinating bid submissions, including writing and editing content
  • review and advise on improving bidding processes

Marketing and communications:

  • assist with developing the practice’s brand: direct and monitor its consistent use across media channels, develop key messaging for use in marketing materials, publications and communications pieces, and ensure the practice’s people are engaged with and use the brand
  • with others, identify the need for and direct the design of brochures and marketing collateral
  • develop and implement an effective external communications strategy, including opportunities involving PR, social media, events and the practice’s online presence
  • instigate and manage initiatives to improve internal communications
  • identify, source, collate and write content for various marketing communications activities, including internal announcements, Update (internal blog), website, press releases, project case studies, awards submissions, staff profiles and keynote presentations
  • establish close working relationships with publications and design journals, identifying opportunities for the practice to contribute to them
  • manage and develop the practice’s website, social media profiles, image library and internal blog

You will have:

  • five+ years of experience providing communications, public relations and/or business development guidance and support to senior staff within architectural, design or construction industries
  • proficiency with InDesign, PowerPoint and Photoshop
  • passion for architecture and be conversant with contemporary design debates and projects
  • self-motivation and independence while able to contribute positively to project team-working
  • exceptional written and verbal communications skills and ability to distil messages clearly
  • outstanding project management and ability to balance conflicting deadlines and priorities
  • the ability to engage with different audiences, switching tones and approach as needed
  • a thirst for learning, increasing skills and becoming part an essential part of the team
