Senior project architect

Feix&Merlin is looking for a senior project architect to join its team in south London.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an expanding studio, based in south-east London’s iconic Bussey Building in the centre of lively Peckham.

You will take the lead on some of our most exciting projects, dealing directly with clients and contractors, and you will play a vital role in all stages from concept design through to completion.

Feix&Merlin have gone from strength to strength and have recently won the commission to restore and redesign Walworth Town Hall, alongside other major projects across the UK and Europe. We aim to continue our development and recognition in the industry over the coming year, further improving upon our reputation for exhilarating and pioneering architecture.

The Feix&Merlin team is growing, and this role means joining the studio at a pivotal moment in time so you will also be able to directly contribute to the growing success of an exciting practice.

Applicants must have a minimum of three-five years’ experience with some client-facing experience, and the ability to work on your own as well as part of a team. Proficiency in Vectorworks, Adobe packages, is essential. As well as the desire to work in a small studio.

The successful applicant will be responsible for running projects through all RIBA work stages and should be able to provide evidence of the following attributes:

  • a practised and creative project architect with experience on-site, delivering projects to completion
  • a keen eye for detail with a meticulous and innovative approach to design
  • a genuine interest in construction, and detailing, good knowledge of the UK building regulations
  • experience in creating tender packages, construction documents, and writing NBS specifications
  • excellent communication skills, both written and verbal in English
  • have strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, the consultant team, contractors and local authorities
  • the capability to effectively communicate complex ideas in a concise and coherent manner
  • experience in leading design team meetings, coordinating with consultants
  • excellent CAD drafting skills (Vectorworks, SketchUp, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, Microsoft applications all on Mac OS), good hand sketching ability
  • confidence to work independently and take a lead on project development but with the support and direction of the directors
  • brilliant organisational, project management and planning skills. The aptitude to lead and motivate a team, acting as lead designer, with the ability to achieve the client’s design, cost and programme objectives
  • have a commercial awareness in dealing with an individual project and the wider environment of the company
  • enjoys delivering projects as the project architect/lead designer role
  • hold architect’s registration board registration and have a minimum of three but ideally five-plus years’ post-Part 3 UK experience

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK and would ideally be available to start in August/September 2019.
