at OBM International

OBM International is looking for a 3D renderer/visualization artist to become part of its team in Miami, USA.

Position summary

You will translate what a designer is trying to communicate to the client through 3D or 2D illustrations. Illustrations can range from conceptual art to photo-realistic quality and a key driver to telling a story.

You will be working closely with the design teams, the ideal candidate will interpret architectural designs as specified within project sketches, architectural drawings or models; realizing those design as compelling photo-realistic images. This position is integral to the design team and closely work alongside the designers, architects and sub-consultants to provide design iterations, pitch material, and concept images for high profile speciality projects.

In this position the 3D renderer/visualization artist will analyze and understand the style of each project to ensure the rendering sets are accurate reflections of the design intent while remaining consistent to the firm’s visual brand standards.

Essential job functions:

  • create a variety of high-quality exterior and interior architectural 3D models and renderings
  • rapidly construct accurate high-quality, realistic 3D renderings
  • work independently and with project teams in creating representations of design sketches or developed projects
  • oversee and mentor junior visualization artists

Realize architectural designs:

  • bring architectural concepts to life by creating exceptional photorealistic renderings through the use of architectural and photography software programs
  • create 3D massing models from architectural plans in 3ds Max. Applying textures to the models and providing appropriate lighting techniques
  • create 2D renderings from 3D models and enhancing images using Photoshop or other appropriate photo/rendering software
  • work with design teams to provide design iterations, pitch material and concept images for high-end, luxury hospitality, residential, and destination creation architectural projects

Design leadership:

  • manage the entire 3D process from start to finish based on department standards, including preparation and setup of scenes for distributed and/or vendor rendering
  • manage the entire postproduction process from start to finish based on department standards including the process of design and markups between the OBMI team and the sub-consultants
  • be a resource for the architectural team on OBMI visual standards while bringing creative new ideas and innovative solutions to the firm
  • provide research, testing and thought leadership on new software, techniques and industry trends
  • active follower and contributor of the 3D arch-viz community
  • serve as graphics and animation resource to additional internal clients including marketing department
  • maintain database of exceptionally qualified rendering and photography vendors
  • coordinate and supervise the production of renderings by external vendors

Qualifications and requirements

Technology:

  • in-depth understanding of color, composition and lighting for photorealistic imagery, including expert knowledge of lighting and render settings with Vray 3.4+
  • expert knowledge of editing and compositing with Adobe CC
  • intermediate knowledge of virtual reality
  • intermediate knowledge of augmented reality
  • five years of architectural design or studio background and extensive experience with graphics, Photoshop, Premiere, 3ds Max, SketchUp, Piranesi or similar
  • five years of experience with 3D Architectural visualization, rendering and digital model-making
  • experience with Lumion, After Effects, UnReal, Unity, Revit and other 3D platforms a plus

Education and experience:

  • experience translating architect’s sketches and CAD/Revit documents into realized 3D models and images
  • trained in diverse platforms to work on a variety of project types
  • able to research solutions to either artistic, or technical, issues when they arise
  • a good understanding of light and color. Along with composition, and basic art principles
  • strong communication skills, time management, and self-driven work ethic
  • bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design, graphic design, digital design or animations
