AU Architects is looking for a Part 2/3 architect to join its studio in London, UK.
Purpose of role
Support feasibility studies, planning applications and tenders under the guidance of director. Applicants should have strong design skills and min one-three years’ practice experience in working on a variety of UK-based projects including private houses and small residential apartment conversions.
You will be working in a small team with the opportunity to take ownership on projects. Excellent design and technical skills are essential including using AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite in a working environment to
create feasibility reports and design and access statements is a must. SketchUp knowledge and good graphical presentations skills are also essential.
Key responsibilities (will include but are not limited to):
- preparation of bid documents, feasibility studies, design development, planning applications and production information
- prepare drawings, documents and presentations for client, consultants, contractors and other relevant parties
- preparation of CAD drawings in AutoCAD
- preparation of presentation images utilising Photoshop, SketchUp and InDesign
- preparing concept scheme designs from client briefs
- communicating schemes in a mixed portfolio of media from 2D CAD, Photoshop and SketchUp
- preparing quickly feasibility options for various projects and working with other disciplines to test the validity of designs
- attend design team and site meetings where appropriate. Site inspections-liaison with contractors and subcontractors, site procedures and documentation
- take responsibility for their own learning ensuring that upon Part 3 (or similar) qualification, they have all the necessary skills, achievements and experience required to run a project under guidance
- understand statutory and planning policy requirements and integrate information into design and production drawings for planning, building regulations, listed building applications etc
- an understanding of the planning portal and submission of online applications under the guidance of a director
- research and develop solutions to architectural problems accepting responsibility for tasks and project work allocated to them. This should include researching project briefs, researching construction products/materials and understanding the fundamentals of technical detailing and design decisions
- liaise with other consultants and disciplines to ensure coordinated and well-resolved integration of structural and building services solutions that complement the architectural intent
Part 2/3 architectural assistant/architect job description:
- successfully communicate to clients, contractors and other consultants ensuring the level of information/discussion is appropriate to the audience, this should include discussion of fundamental design concepts and principles through to technical detailing and the appliance of technology
- time management in the preparation of design work and working to client deadlines is essential
Professional skills:
- Adobe Creative Suite – essential to be proficient in Photoshop and InDesign for feasibility and planning design and access statements
- AutoCAD
- Microsoft Office
- 3D Sketch Up (V-Ray plugin experience beneficial) – needs to be proficient
