Part 2 architectural assistant/Part 3 architect
at HILLS+CO.

HILLS+CO. are looking to appoint an experienced Part 2 architectural assistant or recently qualified Part 3 to join its studio in Gloucestershire, UK

HILLS+CO. are an emerging design-led practice working, and inspired by, the rural environment we live and work in. We currently have a number of contemporary domestic projects at various scales and stages, both new build and retrofit, with an environmental focus.

The studio is located in the Lower Wye Valley AONB, close to the river, with Bristol being 35 minutes away and Cardiff, one hour.

Our design approach is project/site specific, and involves testing in a creative manner, seeking to find the appropriate solution by way of sketching, modelling, the use of diagrams, 3d computer modelling and CAD. As an architect and interiors practice, we are interested in both traditional and contemporary materials, finishes, colour and texture, used in a creative way.

We are keen for the successful candidate to play a pivotal role in the growth of the studio, and to be a key part in the future of the practice.

The ideal candidate for a Part 2 role should have the following skills and experience:

  • undertaking site and measured surveys
  • experience of contemporary residential work
  • a strong design portfolio (with sketching, modelling and diagrams evidenced)
  • must be proactive, able to take the initiative and be creative
  • ability to work to a varying workload and tight deadlines
  • excellent written and spoken English
  • excellent SketchUp skills
  • proficient in CAD (Vectorworks) and Adobe Suite
  • attention to detail is essential
  • communication skills, including good written skills for the purpose of reports and presentations
  • full UK/ EU Driving license

The ideal candidate for a Part 3 role should have the following skills and experience:

  • evidenced technical and detailing experience
  • ability to prepare construction and tender packages including NBS specifications
  • job-running experience; RIBA Stage 4 onwards
  • ability to develop relationships with clients, consultant teams and contractors
