Project manager
at Jan Hendzel Studio
Jan Hendzel Studio is seeking a project manager to join its team in London.
We are excited to invite applications for a new member of our core team.
Jan Hendzel Studio is a group of passionate and experienced furniture makers and product designers based in Woolwich, south east London. We pride ourselves on innovative design, challenging technical joinery and pushing the boundaries of what it means to work with wood.
The position is two-fold. We need a project manager to manage our growing roster of exciting projects and commissions. You will take initial enquiries through to final delivery – liaising with clients and contractors, and maintain, develop and initiate organisational systems that ensure projects meet deadlines and client expectations.
Second, as a key member of our small business, you will play a part in managing the studio – contributing to the smooth running and growth of our business.
We are committed to equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion and we encourage applications from groups underrepresented in the furniture making sector. Below is a complete list of desirable skills and experience, but if you have something different, new to us, parallel to what we have listed then please apply, we will seriously consider all who do.
At heart, the essential requirements are passion for furniture and design, organisation, adaptability and someone comfortable working closely within a supportive team.
Although we are a small team, we have enviable commissions, big ideas, and ambitious plans. We have had an incredible last two years, completing multiple high profile projects and launching a hugely successful furniture range, Bowater. We want to build on this success and are looking for a new team member who will join us on our journey to new heights and ultimately help to shape and steer the studio’s future direction.
Ideally, this is a full-time position based in our Woolwich studio, South East London, but there is some degree of flexibility dependent on circumstance.
Pay rate is dependent on experience.
Please note – this is not a job for someone wanting to make furniture in the workshop.
Key responsibilities:
- being a first point of contact for clients, customers and contractors
- identifying and liaising with subcontractors
- providing informed project quotes and lead times
- ordering and researching materials and fabrication techniques
- time-tabling fabrication and keeping records of project costs and staff time
- understanding project feasibility, value engineering proposals, providing technical solutions, carrying out site surveys/measurements
- helping to research and put together proposals and tender documents
- managing online shop orders and enquiries
- streamlining and improving project management systems
- helping out with general studio management and organisation
Skills:
- highly organised, proactive and efficient project manager
- clear verbal and written communication
- confidence in liaising with suppliers, contractors and clients
- CAD experience for delivering sketches for costing, clarifying components, etc.
- reading architectural and construction drawings
- working knowledge of office software/organisational software
- technical knowledge of furniture/product making processes
- understanding the running of a workshop
- understanding and assessing site-fitting and installation
Experience:
Highly desirable:
- minimum of three years project management experience
- experience in the furniture making field
Of interest:
- working on sustainably-driven projects
- a design background
- an understanding of processing and working with timber
