Workshop presenters in schools
at Architecture Workshops
Architecture Workshops is seeking individuals to train as workshop presenters to join its team in various locations across England, but primarily around London.
The Architecture Workshop Association is seeking talented individuals to train as workshop presenters, to join a small dedicated team dedicated to imparting the knowledge of the built environment, past present and future.
Architecture Workshops provide hands-on cross-curricular STE(A)M (Science Technology Engineering (Art) and Maths) learning with an architectural and design basis to all key stages and abilities throughout England and Wales. Due to an ever-expanding network of our school client base we urgently require special individuals to train as workshops presenters. Our highest priority is in London, the South East and home counties.
Using simple materials to build large-scale structures the workshops have been designed to raise awareness among students about the built environment, using literacy, mathematics and science to relate to history, geography and other subject areas. We work from early years foundation stage (EYFS) through key stage one and two at primary schools, key stages, three, four and five at secondary schools to undergraduate level at university.
We are looking predominantly for candidates with a degree in a design discipline, with a keen interest in sharing the creative process to pupils, students and teachers. You will ideally have a background in architecture, interiors or another 3D design/art discipline, but we are most interested in the individual and that you have a desire to impart design ideas with enthusiasm. No formal teaching qualification required, as all training is given.
As an architect is a multidisciplinary role, so is that of the workshop presenter. This unusual and fulfilling position combines the skills of the artist, designer, teacher, organiser, performer architect and structural engineer. New graduates are encouraged to apply especially those considering a career in teaching. We have had many presenters, go on to teach at primary, secondary and university level, as time with us was taken into account as part of their training experience.
As a presenter you will be required to travel to schools, liaising with staff once at the school, host the workshops and convey the ideas in an inspirational manner. You will generally be at the same school all day running a series of workshops in one location. The position is offered on a supply and demand, self-employed term time basis only.
Full training is given, usually lasting two to three weeks, shadowing in schools. All expenses will be paid during training and a training fee of £50 per day will be paid upon successful completion of training. On becoming an animateur with the team your daily fee will be £100 per day and mileage allowance of £0.40/mile. After a two to three term probationary period (dependent on the number of workshops delivered) the daily fee will rise to £115 per day and 12 months thereafter to £130 with mileage allowance of £0.45/mile. Congestion charge, bridge tolls and parking paid by Architecture Workshops.
Own car essential – the equipment cannot be managed on public transport.
Enhanced DBS checks will apply to successful applicants.
