Adjaye Associates is seeking a senior interior designer to join its team in New York.
Adjaye Associates is looking for a senior interior designer for our New York studio with seven to ten years’ experience in an architecture or design-related firm. Our portfolio is diverse in scale and location and includes renovation and expansion, historic preservation, interior design, and master planning. With a focus on socially and culturally impactful projects, our typologies range from museums, libraries, private residential, community spaces to civic monuments.
A successful candidate will understand the design process through programming; interior architecture; architectural specification; documentation; and furniture, fixture, and equipment (FF&E) specifications. We are looking for someone who has prior experience working in an interior design studio and is familiar with high-end, custom design processes. The ideal candidate should possess a positive attitude, with a strong can-do mentality, and be able to manage multiple tasks at one time.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- manage interior projects from schematic design through installation
- collaborate on developing the design concept for a project and guide junior staff through the process
- prepare client presentations with principal’s design sketches, self-generated presentation materials including 2D and 3D drawings and precedents
- design, source, and present interior décor including finishes, fixtures, furniture, hardware, lighting, rugs, fabric, accessories, and art, from vintage to custom items, in collaboration with the principal and other team members
- creation of proposals and coordinating purchases and shipment of all items
- coordinate with vendors, fabricators, millworkers, electricians, general contractors, and receiving houses throughout the entire project to ensure timely installation of project
- manage FF&E and sourcing to target budgets and timetable daily
- maintain communication with client
- create project schedules and budgets; manage internal and external deadlines
- define and solve complex problems and complete tasks accurately with a strong attention to detail and minimum oversight
- organise and oversee project installations
Qualifications:
- bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited architectural or interior design program
- minimum of seven to ten years’ full time experience working for a commercial/residential interior design and/or architecture firm
- CIDQ license required
- overall knowledge and understanding of the basic flow of a project from conception through completion
- experience working with purchasing software such as Design Manager
- strong AutoCAD, Revit, or similar rendering software proficiency, Adobe Suite skills required
- proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is a must
- experience with client invoicing, sending vendor payments, and producing purchase orders
- experience with mixed-use developments and affordable housing preferred
- knowledge of local and online showrooms and resources
- interior architectural experience in all phases of the design process, including custom millwork details
- organised, self-starter who can work independently, is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and can work on multiple projects at various stages of development
- currently resides in New York
