Dezeen is looking for a bilingual journalist fluent in Mandarin and English to run its official WeChat account from Shanghai.
Dezeen is the world’s most influential online architecture, design and interiors magazine, with three million readers a month.
We are looking for a journalist who is fluent in reading and writing both English and Simplified Chinese to run our official WeChat account and other Chinese social media channels.
Reporting to Dezeen’s chief content officer, the China editor’s primary objective will be to produce high-quality, engaging content for Dezeen’s official WeChat account in order to significantly grow the size of its audience.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- selecting, translating and updating Dezeen articles from English into Simplified Chinese to be published on WeChat daily
- writing original articles in Simplified Chinese for a Chinese audience
- sourcing original architecture and design stories from China, including negotiating exclusives
- optimising content for WeChat
- helping to develop and deliver a strategy for growing Dezeen’s WeChat audience and launching and growing other Chinese social media/publishing channels
- setting up and managing media partnerships with other Chinese organisations, media and brands
- acting as Dezeen’s main point of contact in China
- helping us to explore new editorial and business opportunities in China
Candidates must have exceptional reading and writing skills in both Simplified Chinese and English, and have experience of translating between the two languages. In particular, they must be an accomplished writer in Simplified Chinese, able to produce clear, engaging and accurate copy.
In addition, candidates must have a good understanding of Chinese social media platforms such as WeChat and Weibo. A track record of growing an official WeChat account would be highly advantageous.
An interest in and knowledge of architecture and design is essential, while experience of writing about those subjects would be highly beneficial.
This is a full-time position based with Dezeen’s Chinese partners in Shanghai.
