Laughland Jones is hiring a design manager to join its team in Kent, UK.
We are a high-end residential interior design company specialising in projects around the UK, Switzerland and France (primarily alpine). We are looking for a design manager to join our team.
This is a role which is central to the success of a project. Working as part of an innovative team at our Ashford office, only a 35-minute commute from London St Pancras, you will be interacting with the studio manager and design director on a daily basis, accountable for development and production of multiple design projects, responding to planned and reactive workload – whilst introducing design flare and passion within the workplace. You will be responsible for the successful delivery of our projects. This involves managing the design team, acting as the point of contact for all parties involved in the project (e.g. client, contractors, sub-consultants), and ensuring communication and project collaboration between the various channels is managed effectively.
You will manage the design delivery, and responsible for ensuring the client objectives are understood and monitoring the design, purchasing, and installation of assigned projects.
Working alongside the studio manager and design director, you will oversee the project team and assure the project delivery meets the assumed targets and client objectives. Ensuring that all design management tools, designer KPIs, internal set up systems and procedures are followed.
Role and requirements:
- be experienced in the high-end residential sector
- prefer a minimum five years’ experience working in the high-end residential sector – preferably in a design seniority/management role
- hold a degree in interior design, architecture or similar
- must have worked on all stages of a project, from concept through to completion
- great organisational skills, works well with timelines and set procedures
- must have the ability to deliver tender packages including technical drawings, schedules and specifications – including bespoke detailing
- you will have good FF&E knowledge
- good communication skills and the ability to work well individually and with a team
- hand sketching/rendering skills
- have a good knowledge and experience of material specification and suppliers etc within the high-end residential sector
- have excellent presentation skills, both verbally and written, present themselves confidently in meetings
- be confident in defining direction, presenting ideas and communicating effectively across the team
- be comfortable and experience with managing multiple projects
- client facing experience, preferably as key representative
- have a keen eye for detail and design quality, delivering consistently high-quality ideas and presentation output to the client
- travel to meet with clients, suppliers, and visit sites across the UK and abroad

- InDesign, Photoshop
- EstiPC (not essential – training will be given)
- Microsoft Excel
