Signage and wayfinding designer

Cobal is seeking a signage and wayfinding designer to join its practice in Newbury, UK.
We’re growing fast and are seeking a talented full-time designer with a passion for beautiful and functional signage and wayfinding systems to help people navigate and connect with their environments.
The role
The role is centred around the design of signage and wayfinding products and placemaking elements, working across multiple projects, but with the time and space to ideate and craft beautiful and functional solutions.
Working within the design team, projects will include signage and wayfinding designs for a range of environments from concept to manufacturing drawings. You will create documents which communicate our proposals in a clear and comprehensive way to clients, manufacturers and installers.
You will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of interesting and complex projects within a rewarding environment that nurtures both personal and professional growth.
The role involves national travel.
About you
First and foremost, you must be an experienced designer who loves to work in spatial design. You’re a great communicator, and know just how to translate our clients’ brands into an exciting reality.

Skills and experience:
You’ll embrace the company culture and appreciate good design. This role requires excellent typography and graphic design skills with a strong background in information and user-centric design, along with a broad knowledge of materials and manufacturing techniques.
Essential:
- creativity: relevant, practical design experience, you will be skilled in developing products and working with designers and manufacturing teams.
- creativity: able to understand the built environment and translate information gathered on-site or in design packs into solutions
- innovation/tech: a practical and thorough understanding of 3D modelling
- excellence: accomplished at producing accurate technical drawings to BS8888:1
- excellence: a strong understanding of material selection, finish specifications and an awareness of industry standards
- excellence: meticulous, thorough and strong attention to detail
- problem-solving: excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- teamwork: willing and able to adapt your communication style to the audience, and a demonstrable learning agility
- communication: immaculate verbal and written communication and presentation skills. With a very high attention for the details of good English and grammar
- communication: excellent drawing composition and layout skills

Desirable:
- the ability to read architectural plans and elevations
- experience in the sign design or related industry
- typography, graphic design and photo-visualisation skills
Experience in using following software:
- excellent working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop
- solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Qualifications and experience:
- a degree in industrial design, visual communication, graphic design or other related equivalent degree; but we will consider candidates with real life experience
- demonstrable design talent, and an outstanding portfolio of professional design experience
