Overview of the role
You will work within an interior design team, reporting to your team leader and taking direction from them as well as Monique and Staffan Tollgard.
Oscar Fernandez is the technical director and lead architect of our practice. He will also give you direction and oversee your technical competence and design excellence.
Responsibilities
Interior architecture and interior design
We are a 360-degree practice, meaning that you will work from concept to completion on a range of residential and commercial projects including the following areas of work on and off-site:
- understand our role on the project and design deliverables
- explore the client brief using our ‘Questions of living’ approach
- create and contribute to a design direction (concept) using our red thread approach
- contribute to LTA/listed building application/planning permission
- understand proposed procurement route
- prepare a scope of works
- outline a programme (not Gantt charts)
- work on space planning
- provide interior design intent including setting up drawings, elevations, sections, design intent details, drawing issue register
- work in SketchUp to convey our design in 3D
- select materials including consideration of fitness for purpose, regulations, maintenance
- select decorative and architectural lighting, including RCPS, schedules
- select radiators, radiator schedules
- select and design bathrooms, bathroom schedules, liaison with suppliers
- select and design kitchen, liaison with supplier
- joinery drawings and schedules, liaison with suppliers
- select and design window treatments including drawings, specification, ceiling details, liaison with supplier
- provide FF&E design, specification, pricing and procurement (including understanding of relevant fire regulations)
- create and send of invoices for clients
- monitor installation of FF&E
- create and send project reports
- consider CDM including risk assessments and considering our design against the duties of a designer of a project, considering safety on site
- liaise with principal designer
- undertake site visits and completion of minutes/report with relevant photographs; raising any site issues quickly with T
- provide artistic supervision/technical design commentary of sub-contractor/architect drawings showing completion of our design intent deliverables core and smart services: understanding interface between M&E and ID, commenting on specialist design
- create snagging reports
- prepare of as-built drawings where appropriate of our level of involvement
- consideration of and sharing of lessons learned so that the team learns from any lessons learned.

You will be responsible for:
- the quality of the work that you produce and for learning the systems and best practices of Tollgard Studio
- communicating clearly with your team leader and team members so that you understand your project, priorities and deliverables
- ensuring that your work meets the standards and values of Tollgard Studio that will be explained to you during your induction and training process
contributing to the best practices of the studio wherever possible, sharing your knowledge so that the Studio grows in efficiency and excellence - organizing, tracking and recording your time
- being sensitive to the family values and structure that we are proud of at Tollgard and ensuring you are respectful to and considerate of your colleagues
- representing Tollgard Studio professionally in all parts of your work-life, including your presentation, communication and social media
- respecting our clients’ privacy and maintaining a professional relationship with them, never EVER compromising their privacy through social media
- feeding back to your team leader and the management structure (Staffan, Monique and Giorgi) if you have difficulties with your work-load, colleagues or anything that you have been asked to do

- attend an in-house induction to safety on site with studio manager
- ask for a site induction every time you go to a new site
- log any incidents on site with the site manager as well as studio manager

- email or message to let us know if you are sick or have made a doctor’s appointment during work hours
- understand your obligations with regard to your own safety both in the office and on site (eg leaving site if you do not feel safe)
- request leave with enough notice for your team leader to check your team’s holidays and provide approval (i.e. don’t book flights before approval)
- speak to your team leader or studio manager if you feel uncomfortable with any assignment, or anyone’s behaviour in the workplace
