ODInteriors is hiring a design manager to join its team in London.
OD Group is a leading office interiors company based in the City of London, with a dual focus on both traditional construction and design and build. We have firmly established our brand due to excellent service and a commitment to ongoing innovation, and despite the pandemic are on track for another successful year.
We are currently looking for a talented and ambitious design manager to lead and de-risk design within our major projects team, helping to win and deliver an exciting array of office fit-out projects in London.
You will confidently collaborate with the internal project team, managing all phases of the design process from preconstruction and client brief through to on-site implementation.
The role of design manager will include:
- understanding relevant procurement routes and their nuances (lump sum, design and build, and 2-stage) producing and taking ownership of the detailed design and technical coordination at both tender and construction stage
- discussing, challenging, and developing the design of projects to meet each set of tender requirements, working collaboratively with the internal project team
- producing and managing the design release programme in conjunction with each project manager and/or project director
- developing a co-ordinated suite of design documents to ensure uniformity of style, look and feel, and robust detail; developing a suite of standard design details to support future tenders
- ensuring design programmes are produced in good time to be issued to the supply chain for incorporation within their tender submissions
- reviewing submissions received from our supply chain to ensure you remain up to date with current lead times, design periods and manufacturing times
- reviewing each project design against project budget to ensure we stay on track financially during the design development stage
- writing design commentaries for inclusion in tender submissions
- providing a thorough design handover to the internal project team at tender award stage
- understanding of BIM modelling and how it integrates with ASTA Powerproject
- attending mid and post tender interviews to present the design programme section
- liaising with internal project teams for feedback on programme inputs and lead in, procurement and manufacturing periods
- agreeing design deliverable programmes with our supply chain and partner architects
- grow and lead a design team as the business evolves and expands post-pandemic
Required skills and attributes:
- previous experience in commercial interior design for fit-out and refurbishment projects
- detailed construction knowledge – materials, buildability, installation and supply chain
- a strong technical design all-rounder with commercial acumen
- a confident, articulate presenter, with excellent communication skills – both written and verbal
- fluent in AutoCAD Architecture and ASTA Powerproject
- ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- a positive and professional ‘can do’ attitude, striving for continuous improvement and efficiencies
- ability to create a common sense of team and purpose
- desire to take ownership of achieving personal and team objectives
