Michael Collins Architect is hiring Part 2/3 assistants to join its team in Hertfordshire/London, UK.
Michael Collins architects is seeking a Part 2 with a minimum of one years’ office experience to join its team in Hitchin near London designing and delivering public and cultural projects.
The role
We are looking for talented architectural assistants with concept design and technical experience to become part of our expanding design team. Candidates will have a passion for learning, environmentally and ethically sound practice, confidence leading ambitious projects. In addition to developing your own skills in a client facing role, you will be developing designs from concept through to completion, producing design drawings, schedules, specification, 3D CAD models and visualisations. As part of a small friendly studio, you will be involved in all aspects of the practice from project delivery to design competitions, from internal design reviews to improving office systems.
We are based in Hertfordshire near London, but work across the UK. We offer flexible/hybrid working arrangements.
The practice
Established in 2017 Michael Collins Architects is a sustainable accredited practice and has gained recognition for our residential and commercial projects in the Southeast. As a result of recent competition wins our work now includes community led projects in Scotland, strategic sustainability advice and several passivhaus schemes.

Essential skills/knowledge:
- an interest in the social value of architecture
- able to work both independently and in a small team with care and intelligence
- creativity and an aptitude for architectural and detail design thinking
have excellent design and presentation skills, with able to create exceptional and characterful images - a desire to design creatively and collaboratively – model making and sketching
- strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Mac literate and have experience in the use of AutoCAD, SketchUp, an understanding BIM processes is not essential but desirable
- proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
- able to liaise with the consultant design team to progress design development
- be proactive and willing to work autonomously
