Associate interior designer

Spacelab has an opportunity for an associate interior designer to join its team in London.

Spacelab; an award-winning architecture and design practice, are seeking an experienced project architect to join us on a full time, permanent basis, to work on a range of varied and exciting projects. The successful applicant will join of a team of collaborative architects and interior designers, so will enjoy a wide-ranging scope of work.

We collect and use data to analyse and re-imagine how we can create spaces that are more effective, and can benefit the people that use them.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • taking projects from concept to completion
  • running own projects varying in size up to £15 million
  • responsible for overseeing the generation, development and implementation of interior design concepts
  • taking ownership of projects; being client facing and internally
  • site meetings and liaising with consultants
  • working with, managing, coaching, and developing other members of the design team; sharing and delegating the workload, and providing support
  • directing and overseeing the site deliverance

Preferred qualifications, skills and attitudes:

  • degree in architecture or interior design
  • proven knowledge and understanding of business processes and extensive post-graduate experience in client-facing account management
  • intrinsic project management, organisational and planning skills
  • understanding of business, including fees, resourcing, and people management
  • ability to look at a client’s needs and understand the relationships between people, place and performance
  • impactful client, and internal, presentation skills; both in terms of materials and thought leadership
  • strong communication and social skills with colleagues and clients
  • ability to work accurately and to tight deadlines
  • fluent in English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • able to demonstrate experience of projects from concept to completion
  • experience of FF&E selection, coordination and scheduling
  • experience coordinating design with other consultants
  • experience in construction and bespoke detailing and good knowledge of finishes and materials
  • proficient using Vectorworks, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office
  • experience of BIM/Revit would be advantageous
