Architect - Historic Buildings - 3 to 4 years post qualification

Caroe Architecture is looking for a historic buildings architect to join its studio in London or Cambridge, UK,

Caroe Architecture is dedicated both to the care and conservation of historical places and to the creation of innovative new buildings and enhancements. Our expertise ranges from ecclesiastical settings to complex urban, educational and cultural environments. We currently have live project work including both new design and conservation for the National Trust, Oxford and Cambridge University Colleges, St Paul’s Cathedral, York Minster and a wide variety of other interesting Grade I listed buildings and Scheduled Ancient Monuments.

We are looking for an architect with 3 to 4 yrs post qualification experience and with some experience of heritage work to act as project architect and also to support our senior team with larger projects. You will ideally be already working towards achieving AABC or RIBA Building Conservation Accreditation. Good project opportunities to acquire experience and responsibility are available for the right candidate.

Summary of role requirements:

  • qualified architect registered with the ARB with a minimum of 3 years of relevant UK experience post RIBA Part III
  • overall to have proven experience in bespoke and creative technical detailing, to understand and support projects through all RIBA project stages with a sensitivity towards and delight in historic buildings, and with an enthusiasm for high quality design and construction
  • demonstrably working towards the AABC or RIBA conservation accreditation
  • developing contract administration skills and experience
  • good knowledge of UK building industry and building regulations
  • developing interest, knowledge and experience in the sustainable retrofit of historic buildings an advantage too
  • good organisational and communication skills required with an excellent command of English, both written and spoken
  • autoCAD proficiency
  • good visual presentation skills (Photoshop and InDesign) desirable
  • good modelling skills (SketchUp/Rhino and/or other 3D-modelling packages) desirable
