Job summary

Member of the London/Dublin leadership team with full financial responsibility for the London and Dublin businesses, including Portland Design. Dual relationship to the London/Dublin managing director and to the firmwide chief financial officer. Significant interaction with the managing director, operations director, principals, project managers and corporate finance team.

Responsibilities:

  • full financial responsibility for London and Dublin businesses, including Portland Design
  • lead, manage, mentor and develop local finance team
  • develop and execute comprehensive financial strategies aligned with the company’s goals and objectives
  • provide financial insights, forecasts and recommendations to support strategic decision-making processes
  • in conjunction with the legal team ensure that the regulatory and reporting requirements of all statutory bodies are met, including tax and statutory compliance and filings
  • oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly financial reporting pack to US parent, including analytics
  • banking, cash management and preparation of cash flow forecasts, and in conjunction with the corporate treasury manager, manage banking relationships
  • financial planning including annual budgeting, monthly forecasting and analysis
  • manage all payroll functions to ensure that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner
  • manage the annual audit and liaise with external auditors
  • assist in the preparation of fee quotes and preparing project budgets
  • manage internal controls and audit processes to mitigate financial risks
  • monitor key financial metrics, identify trends and provide proactive recommendations to optimise financial performance
  • promote cross-functional collaboration and communication within the finance team and other support functions

Proficiencies and competencies:

  • ‘hands-on’ working style
  • in-depth knowledge of industry-specific financial regulations, compliance standards, and reporting requirements
  • demonstrated experience in financial planning, budgeting and forecasting
  • excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team
  • displays excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial professionals
  • ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities

Skills and experience required:

  • ACCA /ACA /CIMA qualified accountant
  • minimum of 10 years’ professional accounting experience required; preferred experience in both a firm of auditors/accountants and a design firm or architectural practice
  • experience of working for a global firm with a US parent preferred, and experience of working internationally in particular the Middle East
  • excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular, Excel
  • knowledge of Deltek Vision or other resource planning tools is preferred
  • good organisational skills and ability to prioritise own workload with attention to detail
  • strong technical accounting skills
  • strong verbal and written skills, and strong reporting and presentation skills
