Pearson Lloyd is looking for a studio manager to join its studio in east London.

Pearson Lloyd, Dezeen Designers of the Year 2023, is a product, furniture, and innovation design studio. Led by founders Luke Pearson and Tom Lloyd, for 27 years, the agency has designed products, systems and environments for the home, workplace, transport and healthcare sectors.

We are looking for a proactive and highly organised studio manager to support the studio. This is a dynamic role, for an energetic, organised and motivated individual. Good communication skills, a passion for design and a hands-on approach are essential.

The role is a wide-ranging one, which will include:

  • general operational administration of the business activities and premises
  • human resources
  • supporting the bookkeeper and accountancy team
  • managing the Yorkton Workshops gallery and events space
  • supporting the communications and marketing team
  • supporting new business activities
  • supporting the design team
  • supporting the directors
  • general administration
  • provide administrative support to the directors including diary management, travel and communications
  • act as the first point of contact for the studio to all visitors, clients and deliveries
  • manage all operational matters relating to studio premises, equipment and supplies and the day-to-day functioning and presentation of the studio
  • assist the directors with human resourcing, including staff recruitment and leavers, inductions for new staff, managing personnel records, annual leave, absence and annual reviews

Arrange staff socials including studio lunches, the summer and christmas parties.

Finance:

  • complete client invoicing, staff and project expenses and other financial tasks
  • supporting PL bookkeeper and external accountants HW Fisher with Payroll, VAT returns and HMRC matters
  • make purchases and payments on behalf of staff and clients

New business:

  • administrative support all new business activities to develop bids and presentations

Marketing and communications:

  • manage the sales, bookings and marketing of Yorkton Workshops, Pearson Lloyd’s studio space, which includes a gallery and events space, meeting rooms and location for hire
  • manage awards submissions and newsletters
  • organise Pearson Lloyd’s events including exhibitions, client meetings and presentations

Required skills:  

  • excellent command of the written and verbal English language, with exceptional communication skills and telephone manner
  • excellent organisational and time management skills – able to work independently with a proactive attitude
  • basic financial literacy with an ability to manage budgets, project codes and client invoicing; experience with QuickBooks is desirable
  • Microsoft Office Suite including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel
  • good knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
  • excellent organisational and time management skills – able to work independently with a proactive attitude
  • experience or interest in working in a creative environment
  • valid UK/EEA work permit

The role is full-time on-site in east London.

Salary range £30,000-40,000.

Qualifications:

  • three years’ experience in a similar role required
  • preferably educated to bachelor’s degree level but not compulsory
