Workshop coordinator
at Universal Design Studio

Universal Design Studio is hiring a workshop coordinator to join its team in London.

A dedicated self-starter who is passionate about interior design and architecture, with team spirit who shares the studio’s creative ambitions. To clearly communicate a design narrative through aesthetically powerful models, ability to create a wide range of aesthetic models and functional prototypes from sketch mockups to high fidelity finished models. To not only satisfy client demands for each project but go above and beyond to add a creative edge to our models.

You will have general ownership of the workshop space and material stock, housekeeping and day-to-day maintenance tasks. This role will be working across both Universal Design Studio and Map Project Office so you will be working on a range of projects from architectural models to industrial design prototypes. So a broad range of skills are required for this role.

Key responsibilities:

  • consistently create high-quality physical models for use in client presentations
  • take responsibility and ownership of the model making element of the project, communicating with team members regarding status and schedule
  • capability to read and understand architectural drawings, and exporting to create elements using the CNC machine, laser cutter and 3D printer

Skills, knowledge and expertise

Essential:

  • proven experience in a similar role within an architectural and/or interiors studio
  • experience using Vectorworks and Rhino
  • highly creative and thoughtful with a superb eye for composition and material execution, with a technical understanding and passion for bringing ideas to life
  • CNC Machine Experience (preferably Fusion 360)
  • laser cutter experience
  • 3D Printer experience
  • experience using general workshop tools, adhesive, sprays etc.

Good to have:

  • understanding of architectural project design approach and workflow
  • be well organised and adaptable, with the ability to multitask and prioritise
  • proactively investigating advances in the model making industry and making recommendations on how the studio’s modelling output can be improved
