Criterion Capital is seeking a concept development designer to join its team in London, UK.Reports to: managing architect

Purpose of the role

The role and responsibility of a concept development designer is to 360 improve all design concepts and consolidate the Zedwell Design Guidance.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • liaise with the hotel operations, in-house design and construction teams
  • understand our hotel brand, Zedwell, and branding research carried out to date
  • review the concepts developed to date and apply lessons learnt
  • research the latest trends and developments in the hospitality industry to ensure the concepts are time-proofed
  • improve the concept designs for the following room typologies: capsule, cocoon and crib
  • prepare drawings, specifications, schedules and visuals to illustrate the concept proposals
  • lead development, preparation and improvement of digital and physical prototypes for the various concepts
  • develop the Zedwell Design Guidance following the brand strategy including the following: core design principles, guest journey, room types, wayfinding, monitoring and evaluation principles
  • assist the in-house design team during the preparation of a robust briefing pack for each development in coordination with operations departments and for stakeholder’s sign-off

In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed above, the job may require other duties assigned by their line manager to be performed from time to time, outside the normal sphere of work as may be reasonably requested.

Undertake such other duties appropriate to the level and character of work as may reasonably be required within the company.

Skills:

  • architecture or interior design qualification
  • experience in affordable hospitality
  • experience in space planning/compact living spaces such as yacht cabins, hostels, hotels
  • experience in experiential design
  • strong communication and presentation skills
  • strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • strong written and verbal communication skills
  • knowledge in preparation of CGI and virtual reality
  • knowledge of design sequence and construction systems for the hospitality sector
  • knowledge of the design process at the pre-construction and construction stages with a main contractor or developer
  • understands the key design principles such as monitoring and evaluation design parameters, disability, fire and acoustic requirements
  • good people management and negotiation skills
  • positive attitude to problem-solving and thinking outside the box
  • ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
  • self-motivated, proactive, flexible and reliable
  • commercially aware
  • IT skills: Microsoft Office package, AutoCAD, Revit Adobe Suite (Photoshop/InDesign/Illustrator/Lightroom) and any software to produce CGI and virtual reality
