Bring technical excellence to a design-led studio.

Studio Tashima is seeking a freelance technical designer/architectural technician with five plus years’ of UK experience to join us for a focused period of project delivery this autumn.

We are a small but ambitious architecture and interiors studio based in North London. Our approach is resourceful and organic, rooted in the creation of timeless architecture rich in materiality and spatial experience. We work across the residential, commercial, and hospitality sectors with a collaborative, design-led ethos.

The role

You’ll play a pivotal role in translating concept designs into high-quality technical packages. Working closely with the Director and project leads, you will help ensure design integrity is carried through to execution – from drawing production and construction coordination to site support.

This freelance role is suited to someone confident working autonomously, but comfortable collaborating with our team both remotely and in person.

Key responsibilities:

  • develop detailed technical and construction drawings, including joinery and material specifications
  • support project delivery across RIBA Stages 3–5
  • ensure all designs comply with UK building regulations, health and safety standards, and planning requirements
  • participate in design team coordination, liaising with consultants, contractors, and suppliers
  • conduct site visits and respond to technical queries as needed
  • maintain technical consistency and quality across project documents
  • assist with managing CAD standards and project templates
  • contribute to the refinement of the studio’s technical library and internal resources

Skills and experience required:

  • five plus years’ of experience as a technical designer or architectural technician in the UK
  • strong knowledge of construction detailing, materials, and UK building regs
  • proven ability to deliver technical packages with precision and care
  • proficiency in Vectorworks 2D (3D a bonus)
  • highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders
  • eligible to work in the UK and able to work on a freelance basis
  • experience working in design-led practices or on high-quality bespoke projects
  • familiarity with sustainable building practices and materials
  • comfortable managing your own time and priorities over a project block

What we offer:

  • a collaborative and creative studio culture
  • flexible hybrid working (North London studio + remote)
  • the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to high-quality, design-driven projects
  • competitive freelance rate, commensurate with experience
